Looks like I will be having surgery tomorrow or thursday for a detached retina. Anybody have one before? I have no idea what to expect.

Thanks, it is my dominate eye, I really don't want to shoot left handed.

My dad did a couple years ago. His experience was not too bad, but he was able to sit upright while it healed. Depending on where it detached, I think you have to keep your head a certain way to make it heal right. They injected an air bubble that put pressure on the detached part to press it back into place, hence the head position thing.

Is it tomorrow? Good luck when you go in.

They took a lot of pictures inside my eye this afternoon, it is a large tear, hanging down into my field of vision. Surgery tomorrow trying to get it back in place, fingers crossed.

Well wait and SEE what happens. See what I did there??? Ok joking aside good luck!!!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Surgery seemed to go pretty well, post-op checkup today was good. Dad has been my taxi to KC the last couple of days, gonna spend a few more days with him, grilling his steak and taking him fishing.

What is your recovery going to consist of? Great news on the surgery!

My understanding, it will take a few weeks for the vision to return. Right now I can tell blue sky and green grass, thats about it. Will have to sit upright through the day, sleep on my side at night, no reclining or sleeping on my back. There is a NO2 bubble in my eye that will dissapate with time, helps keep the retina in place (?). No lifting anything much or creating pressure on the eye. Already hit my head because im blind in that eye for now 🤪. Plan on just spending time with dad, let him fish all he wants the next couple days.

Well wishes on your recovery. Sounds like an ordeal. Glad you have your dad to help out.

Do you have to wear a patch over the eye? Had to do that when I got some metal dust in eye. It sucked and I only wore the patch for about twelve hours.

I tore a sclera once and it was not fun. Thought I had something in my eye for a few days and kept rubbing it and trying to drag my finger tip across it, not realizing it was a tear and i was making it worse. It was quite unpleasant for probably a month, and the worst part was that closing they eye and "resting" it actually made it feel worse.

Had to wear the patch over my right eye. Yeah, I'm right eye and right hand dominate. Walking up and down the ships' ladders and eating was quite the task.

Mozart best of luck on your surgery. I had 2 cataracts surgery done in 5 days and vision is great except for close. Best of luck brother keep us posted on your progress

Had to wear a hard plastic cover over it the entire first day, now only wear it at night.

Here is a tip my dad got. Probably TMI for the group, but if you deal with constipation at all, take a stool softener while you are healing. My dad had a bout and straining actually set him back. Same reflex as lifting heavy. Something to consider.
