^^^. Omni.....I saw your post above where you used your roller crimper and planted in the same pass. I know you have said other times that it works well for you on your loader. Always wonder if you have issues with steering or notice the side load put on your loader arms? I had both issues when used this way....and I thought I may tweak my loader. Maybe I'm just a worry wart?.......but I did have steering issues. I suppose if you have long straight passes.......?

Have you tried it in float mode. Seems like it might work better that way.

Yes I did try it in float mode. I have a fairly heavy tractor....a Kubota L3560 with hydro, cab, fluid in rears, and HD loader. I turned the roller around so that the chevrons were facing in the "proper" direction and it was full of water....pretty heavy and with a full drill on the back it's pulling and pushing a load of about 5000 lbs. No problem with the power or lift capacities......but steering was not good. The crimper wanted the tractor to continue in straight lines.

I had trouble steering in almost every situation I tried and I could sense the load applied to those loader joints was significant. I think the side loading is a good way to tweak your loader. In any event I had to lift the loader many times to make steering changes. Not only could this be hard on the loader, but there are too many operating challenges going on for me to use the crimper and a drill at the same time.

I turned my drum back to a three point direction and not going to operate via the loader anymore. Using it on the 3 point allows faster crimping and steers like a dream. It's not too often I want to plant and roll at the same time anyway......so it's not that big of deal to me.

I’ve used crimper on front end loader for two seasons with no issues. This will be season 3 when I plant in May.

You know fog there is extra wear on your equipment having to make extra passes just for crimping also.

Yep. But I will never wear out my tractor in my lifetime. The few hours I spend doing crimping are not a major thing.....but tweaking my loader could be nothing short of a nuclear disaster....grin. I know we have a difference of opinion on this operation. I'm glad it works for you. Maybe my chevrons dig into the sand harder here?.....or something?? But my tractor is hell-bent on going in a straight line when the crimper is on my loader. I cannot see this loader mounted operation working for many food plot guys. Dunno??

Most "big ag" tractors that front mount a crimper do so on a dedicated front 3 point hitch....not a loader frame. The dedicated 3 Point is far shorter arms (less side torque) and built for such things.

I suppose we just have to agree to disagree Omi. I did learn that you were correct on a difference of opinion on Simazine application. Thanks for that......as I will not need to make a special trip to apply that stuff in Spring. So.....at least I can still learn.....lol.

She is doing pretty good. Been back to playing some golf again and enjoying life. Went to eat at a new casino here in OZ tonight....just to scope it our if we get some guests for a visit. Pretty good assortment of restaurants and fair prices for the venue offered. Everything from a Morton's Steakhouse to fast food and a pub.....which is where we had dinner.

Before we went to the Casino.....we stopped into a new WINCO supermarket to check it out too. It's only about a mile from our place here in OZ. One thing I noticed was a huge assortment of bulk candy, nuts, seeds, and all kinds of bulk products. So, my wheels got to spinning and I thought some of these things could be good to plant (mung beans) and some would be good filler to use with small seeds (rice). Took a few pics and plan to go back for a bit more study on what is to be had here. Prices were reasonable and you only need to buy one lb increments. Some of these seeds were only $1 to $3 / pound. Seems cheap.

It varies. I only buy bags that are at least partly clear so I can see what's in it. I try to recognize what's in the highest volume, and ignore minority content.

Here's the result of carlessly throwing black sunflower bird seed. I might have mowed. Or might not, I don't remember. But no herbicide.

Sunflowers are the state flower. They grow very easily here.

Sprayed my fields yesterday. Will plant next week.

I sprayed because I find my Aeschynomene and Alyce clover mix does better with a preemergent. Adding soybeans this year.

Neither.

I use a Great Plains drill. I sprayed first then will drill directly into it.
