Good read

I will have to agree with most of this, I started hunting northern Wisconsin in the late 90’s, and the times have matched up with production. I know severe winters effect the herd more then predators, but when you have a couple severe winters in a row, and predators aren’t kept in check, it can really put a hurting on the deer.

This past winter was a pretty hard late winter and so far my deer numbers are what I would consider a little below average, but still acceptable. But if we get another bad winter, it will put the herd back a quite a bit. My property is in northern Forrest, and I have all the predators, Bear, wolves, DNR being to generous with antlerless tags, trigger happy hunters, and even a few cougar at times. It doesn’t take much to make the herd go from average to way below when there are a couple bad winters.
