Glacier and Yellowstone vacation 2024

You cant see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone enough. On our final night we went to Red Rock point and that might be my favorite view of it. Lots of thermal activity happening in the canyon if you really pay attention.

After our final day we woke up and headed towards the NE entrance. We left through the Lamar Valley and headed on the Beartooth highway for home. We drove the entire distance in one shot. My wife drove about an hour. I drove the rest. We got back to MN late in the middle of the night. Beartooth highway is one of the prettiest drives in the US.

The problem with going west is you wanna keep going.

We just did a trip to Southern California to see a friend. Did Joshua Tree and Death Valley. Super cool, but I'll probably never be back there. Too much else to go see.

Glacier is on the list.

Moab is in credible and probably my favorite so far.

We still need to do Zion and Bryce.

Work's killing me.

Have you been to Yosemite? Magical place.

You are correct. The more we go west the more we want to go west. I would like to stay west permanently. I have had enough of shithole flatland MN.

Better move Glacier to the top of your list. Plan far in advance. We are hoping to go back in July of 2026. No splitting it with Yellowstone this time. We are just gonna go to Glacier and stay there the whole time. We tent camp and we love it. Might hit Fort Peck or Lake Sakakawea on the way home for a guided fishing trip.

Always love your mountain vacation recaps Buck.

I work for a company based in CO now, travel too much, and still cant justify moving west. Feel like i'd be killing my parents by moving us and the grandkids away. And its F'n expensive. Sure do love getting into the mountains though. Hope to do many vacations like your family once my 2 and 3 YO girls are older and hopefully they want to go chase elk and deer with dad out there too!

It gets easier with the kids getting older. Mine are 13, 11, and 8.

They get real tired when it's just hiking, but give them some rocks and boulders to scramble up and they'll put on 5x the miles you did walking and be great.

Haven't been to Yosemite yet.

I think Glacier is going to be an anniversary trip for us at some point. No kids, just go.

Yosemite landscape is pretty incredible but the traffic jam throughout the park in primary season is terrible. When I lived nearby I found September/October to be a great time to visit.

We went late September a couple years ago and it was very enjoyable. Did half dome and it wasn’t permitted out. Nice.

That would be too cruel to leave the kids home. Bring them with. Going to some fancy all inclusive resort in the Caribbean would be more geared towards adults only. Your kids would never ever forget the time you brought them to Glacier. Our kids would disown us if we left them home from a trip to the Rockies.

My wife used to be "beach girl", then we discovered the West.

She spent 11 days in the Alaskan bush with no shower and had the guts to tell me it was the best vacation she's ever been on.

The kids have done 2 weeks in an RV to the grand canyon, white sands, seguaro, carlsbad, Antelope Canyon etc... It was amazing.

They've also done this california trip and a trip to Scottsdale. They're not short on adventures.

And my wife wants to do Glacier, then cross the border and do Banff and the Canadian parks too.
