fishing reports

Been fishing near Carey Idaho.

Found the biggest ones @ roughly 3 feet under ice. About 17 inch rainbows 🌈

The brook trout have slowed down.

I drilled a hole closer to the rocks, outta the snow line, the water came rushing up through the hole, so I didn’t fish it.

My buddies got a real nice smoker!

Looking to be back at it on Monday.

Looks like a blast... but COLD! Looks really really cold.

It was about 2 in the morning would warm up to almost 20 around 3 in the afternoon. The sled/tent deal is easy to warm up. I rarely needed it on high.
Buddy heater 2 burner.

I’ll show pictures of the rigs I use. I got circular foam pads that are cut with a small hole in them. A springy rod holder, bait caster with heavy set anti back lash, open free spool. I use small foam bobbers. I heat up a kettle of water to keep the holes open.

Idaho allows 5 lines. I found two holes in the tent didn’t work as a aggressive fish would take both lines.

I got skunked today. A few bites, but nothing hooked.

Here’s my deal. The spring holder is broke, they come self standing. At 3 feet just under the ice, I don’t use a bobber as much.

Have you seen a Jawjacker or the homemade versions?

Jaw jackers have several problems for the smaller fish.

It takes time for a rainbow to get the hook in its mouth. The jack is immediately set.

The tension required to hold a jacker set is often too much for a trout to Handel.

The short rod often doesn’t have enough play in it to keep the trout from getting slack on the line and unhooking it’s self.

I use my jaw jacker as a rod holder in a pinch, but the spring loaded deals are my favorite.

What's the trick for trout then? Just leave them some slack to run with?

Where you fishing telemark.

Yesterday got the fishing bag ready for fort lauderdale and miami. Going on a cruise saturday from NJ. I hit the inlets while at port. 2 years ago was light tackle to see stuff I never caught before. This time bringing a kingfish setup. Catch the bait, then use it to catch the predator. Bringing some pompano jigs and hi lo rigs too.

All over. Currently in Vietnam, but the fish are weird, and a lot of the water is questionable at best. Might head out to the coast and try spear fishing on a reef.

For ice fishing, I'm looking to up my game in Ontario. It's a very remote spot, and the days are short, so I want to maximize my catch for the time I'm up there. I did ok on burbot and lake trout, at least a couple fish each day. But I got broken off by what was likely either big Brook trout or lake trout on my set lines with minnows.

I need to buy a few rods and some kind of device to hold the rods. I was able to build a sort of rod holder out of snow and ice and water that froze solid overnight. Then I used a normal fishing rod with a piece of orange flagging tape tied to the tip. It got me a nice laker, but soon after we got warm weather and rain, which made the ice too unsafe, so I didn't get to use it much.
