fishing reports

I used to work as an engineer for the long island fossil power plants. Used to fish the plant discharges lunch time and after work. The outflow would be 10 degrees warmer. Also, some dead baitfish would be in the discharge. Was litterally a buffet table for fish in the area. Was a real lucky guy back them.

Typical freshwater fish you catch is about the same size you use as bait in the ocean. Certain things you see in the ocean folks dont even believe. Like a bluefish blitz on bait. The thousands of baitfish can make a wave of their own. OR they go on shore to avoid capture. Had a few bunkers go down my waders over the years. Seeing shark play with sea lions is a sight too.
Yep - I caught my black marlin trolling a spread of live 8 lb bonita for bait. Had a number of 50 lb yellowfin tuna bit in two while fighting them. Had a ten ft hammerhead eat a five ft barracuda we were fighting. Almost everything in the ocean is bait for something else.

Kdog. Went back again and too another 50 perch. Caught most of those on a 48 inch ice rod with a horizontal ice jig. Talk about tasty

We don't catch that many down here, but have a few places we can in addition to silver perch.

K dog next week we will check another lake and see if we can find some bull bluegill. Will keep you updated

See what tomorrow brings. A state park near me lets you keep a rowboat there until dec 1st. They allow trolling motors too. Taking the rowboat out one last time before heading back home with her.

My brother lives in Saginaw and I would love to get back up there some time to catch a bucket full!

Used to catch some monsters below Morgan Falls dam - fifty some odd years ago😎

Stumbled upon this photo of my personal best walleye. It's about ten years old, but I'm heckin' proud of it. Not sure about the length, but it weighed just over 14 lbs.

Did you mount it?

Geez that's a moose. Lake erie? Ontario? My biggest is less than half that size. Would love to chase a few 30 inchers but just haven't made the commitment yet. My dad and I partnered on a 19' glass boat last yr, so set the wheels in motion. Heard Nov is the best time to chase monsters in Erie. Worried about wind and cold November rain tho, lol. I think a calm June south wind would be more suitable for my 1st trip out there in a small boat.

Manitoulin Island.

Smallest I ever caught was 2.75 lbs. The average we get is around 6 or 7 lbs. The water is clear as gin, so it's not easy, but the walleye are the biggest I've seen. Big smallmouth and Brook trout too. And the lake trout are relatively easy to catch.

Nice walleye! I thought the ones I'd catch at Niagara Falls were big.

Took the rowboat at the state park for one last ride before I put it in the truck. Tried catching big pike, no luck. Nothing touched the minnows. End of the day just went to the shallows and catched trophy 2oz bluegills.

Week of Thanksgiving I will be in Atlantic City. A Long Island party boat goes there for the winter on tog trips. The Osprey. Going twice on it. Once with my wife, and another day while my wife works from the hotel.

Might bring the minnows to camp and fish a bit the middle of the day.

We catch some on Lanier, some on the hooch, but most come below Clarks hill dam. You can load up on them down there the right time of the year. Catch them up on the N. GA lakes as well.

Hurricane cleanup from Idalia, springtime tornado, Debby, and Helene put huge dent in fishing over the past year.

Did make single saltwater trip mid-October and put my younger brother on a nice bull red (too big to keep / over FL limit).

Also had an old USMC bud visit about a week ago and I managed to catch a few nice bass from the pond behind my house despite having canoe paddling/guiding duty and only being able to cast from the back.

K dog went back yesterday and caught 50 more perch in two hours. All on 48 inch jig rod. Interesting observation instead of two spikes on the number 12 horizontal jig adding a wiggler was hands down better. Also for anyone that tells you can fish two hooks on two rods at the same time the one rod ice rod is way quicker. Talk about tasty

I hope to be on the ice and spearing fish next week. I sprayed an old wooden decoy for a new look. It is a Duey for those who have an interest.80FAE932-0474-4C1D-A295-C813C62ADE4B.jpeg
