First Real Sign of Spring

356

5 year old buck +
We don’t have many turkey in our county, but it is always encouraging to get one on camera. Hopefully the CRP project will help increase the population. I look forward to being home and seeing if one will respond to a locator call.

Just heard my first gobble of the year a few minutes ago.

I have a bird or two wander by my cameras. A real nice one today. The outfitter down the road baits the hell out of them so they congregate there for the most part.

We have a good crop. Second pic is Toms 10 yards from my deer blind just off the roost. Last fall I could see them in the trees when daylight came.

I've seen two strutting turkeys in the last two day at home in the burbs. The biggest turkey I've ever seen in my life (in real life or in photos/videos) lives a couple blocks away. Cartoonishly large. The neighborhood folks must be feeding it because there's no way it would be that big eating bugs and what not. I cut down a side street last night in hopes of catching a glimpse of him. Saw him in a yard, pulled over to watch him strut. Gave a couple of poult Kee-Kee whistles and made him gobble twice. I can never get of focused picture of him though because it's always at last light when I see him.

The other was today leaving work. "What is that big round brown thing in the woods?" A big tom in strut.

If those gobblers service all those hens, they are going to be dead from exhaustion before season opens

Turkeys were strutting and gobbling at my place end of Jan with snow and ice on the ground.
