I didn't know you'd gotten rid of your herd. I kind of enjoyed (and looked forward to seeing how that was going to pan out) what you were doing with the cows.

I liked having the cows on the farm and they definitely made a positive impact. One thing I learned was it is hard to have pasture equally valuable for both cows and deer. I had been moving to dedicating fields specifically for cows and fields dedicated to deer. I am now converting them all back to deer fields. I still have a small herd raising organic grass fed beef as well as raising broilers and layers.

Equally valuable is never going to be reached, something always outcompetes or wins out. But, I believe they can be mutually beneficial. That requires some give and take, rotations, and vast amounts of judgement calls as things shift or change.
I'm assuming your small herd is for family and friends's freezers (and of course once you start raising animals it doesn't feel right to not have at least a few around).

Place is looking real good Baker! You got lots done with all the equipment this summer. I've done the same thing... thought of buying a dozen then thought twice.

Agree that dozers are probably best rented/hired. But your operator has good taste. The Komatsu D37 is the best there is working in the woods!
And if I ever hire a motor grader, I will have ARRIVED! I’m a few clicks east of you trying to make due with a Kubota and an angle blade. At least it has hydraulics.
212-5/8 gross. Would net 205-3/8. He did break another approx 4” from his brows. 8 or 9 yr old. I crawled on hands and knees with gun and camera over a hundred yards then filmed the hunt. Sat in a patch of grass over an hour waiting for things to work out. Incredibly exciting morning
The buck is absolutely beautiful. But I don’t enter deer in contests or B&C. I will post video of him on YouTube but am occasionally disappointed at how demeaning people can be vs admiring the beauty. That said I will get him officially scored next week. But you won’t see him in magazine articles or anything else. I also made a mistake on my differences calculations. Net is 206-2/8. Bad assed! Wait till you see the video.

He will shrink a bit from there, but just to put that net score in perspective, the current all time US record is 206 1/8, from over 100 yrs ago. 2 other bucks are potentially being panel scored to confirm net scores in the 205 to 207 range. So you most definitely killed the Mexican national record, I'd guess. People debate and hate the B&C book, but your buck is the ideal rack they set out to reward.
I was just looking at all that. Nuts! My buddy is an official scorer and I’ll do that for my own curiosity. I have zero interest in notoriety. Just admiration for this gorgeous whitetail Bet no one expected one of the biggest net topicals ever to come from a dirt ranch in rural Mexico. Viva. Think I’ll have a margarita
