Does anyone have experience with a solar well?

I think I am going to have a well drilled (50-75ft of casing) in an area that needs a watersource due to pretty limited rainfall.
I am not sure how well a pond would work and the quotes/comments from local equipment operators have not been positive. T
he thought would be to have a water tub and let the solar well trickle in the tank nonstop.

Does anyone here know much about them or have a take on this idea?

I do not know much about it but I love the idea. Look forward to hearing what folks think. A garden pond pre-formed tub from lowes or home depot could be an amazing habitat tool even without the continued water supply from the well but the solar powered well + a little garden pond sounds fantastic. Love it!

Good question, I've come close to asking many times myself, including today. (I know there's at least one person here who does)

I keep flip flopping between a solar setup and a generator run one. The latter would probably be simpler, maybe less money and a WHOLE lot less work. (since where I want to use it is in the middle of a forest) But I still entertain the idea. Doing like you said, filling a stock tank autonomously was my initial reason for thinking of going solar. But I decided there's enough natural water around anyway that it wouldn't be worth the trouble (considering the cost)

As for well drilling, I think the ground decides how deep it will be, not you. 😉 Especially if there's very little rainfall.

Check the grazing world. Cattle guys have developed solar wells for way out there pastures.

Well.....this is grazing country, without a ton of available water in general and very much so on this place. Things pretty wide open grasslands with some shallow ponds that may have water a portion of the year.

Adding water here is the number one habitat improvement- and supposedly is exponentially worth the cost resale.

It is also very far from home.

50-80 seems to be the depth needed. 4-5k. The solar pumps from the drillers are also around 5k, but there are multiple kits (with great reviews and install video showing around an hour) for $1500.

I was leaning toward get the well drilled, then spend a few days out there getting habitat work done (buying the pump)....and thats where the ask extended from.
