The thing many people don't seem to mention - or they ignore it - is the pace of temp. change. Sure, the earth has had hotter periods, but they didn't get that way in basically 100 to 110 years. It took thousands of years for prior changes to get hotter. Science has drilled down through tens of thousands of years of ice to sample ice cores in polar regions. Those show levels of CO2 changes over those eons. There is a scientific method to measure such things. If making changes to the way we do things that lessen / mitigate greenhouse gases, such as wind, solar, nuclear, and updated hydro - what the H is wrong with those things?? Less is less!! Do we want cleaner air .... or go back to the dirtier air I remember from when I was a kid??
I can tell you this much - my Dad (raised on farms) and I were weather geeks since we hunted and fished. I, as a young kid /man, always wanted to go swimming with my buddies at the local creek - - - if we got 5or 6 summer days that hit 90 the entire summer, it was a hot summer. The 80's were the normal temps in summer back then. Kids would pray for the temp to get to 70 so the community pools would open (a minimum of 70 degrees to open). Now - we get July & August with weeks on weeks of 90 to 99 degree days. People don't sit out on their porches / decks anymore, or in the yards - too da## hot. Central AC units running non-stop everywhere. That didn't happen years ago here in Pa.
And as for those who say, "What's a 2-degree change in avg. temps going to do to the environment"? Nature is more sensitive than we humans. We have some tree species that are disappearing here because they naturally require lower temps to thrive, and bugs that used to freeze out are now surviving the warmer winters. Some of those bugs, like bronze birch borer, are thriving in these warmer winter temps and are eating the white birch to death here. BBB seem to hammer older, bigger white birch, which we are losing in the Pa. mountains. We used to have many large white birch in our mountains, which are now disappearing. The young birch that pop up after fires or mining here won't live to get to big mature size anymore. The coral reefs that are dying around the world from much warmer ocean temps are critical to many fish species that we depend on for food. Marine scientists can verify that the corals are dead / dying. All made up .......... right??? Maybe throw on a scuba suit and go with the scientists to see for yourself. See how few fish in the food chain aren't there on those reefs anymore. Polar sea ice melting big-time, as is the permafrost in our northern regions.
Many long-established wineries in Europe and North America are moving their vines to more northern, cooler regions - because the regions that for thousands of years had favorable climates for growing grapes are now too hot to keep growing grapes. You think those vineyard owners are doing that on a whim - for no reason??? Because of rumors - or because of what they see and experience since they depend on recording temps to have a thriving vineyard??
We only have this one Earth to live on. Does it make sense to just throw caution to the wind and keep polluting it because changing some of our behaviors will cause us some inconvenience?? My wife and I will buy hybrid vehicles for our next purchases. We'll use electricity for most of our driving, but still have gas engines for longer trips or back-up power. Talked to several locals who have Teslas and other electric vehicles - they love them. I'll install the charging receptacles outside for safety with all weather-proof equipment. No strain - no pain to eliminate some CO2 and nitrogen oxides in the air.
