Do you remember it being colder

It hardly ever snows here, but the records for Baton Rouge do show a gradual decrease in snowfall. We are supposed to get between 4-8" today, so there's that.

Sorta strange weather here in NE Wisconsin. Looking out my window right now I can see grass in my yard, but it's -14. Probably get blasted with snow when it warms up.

-25 here in NW Wis this morning. We have about 4" of snow which is nice as the frost won't go any deeper. Jerry you worried about the frost over there?

Little bit. I don't know if it'll get to the water lines at my cabin. When I had it put in I covered it with some pink styrofoam before backfilling.
I don't drive over the water lines so I'm hoping it'll be ok. Not as concerned here at home the line to my mound system should be ok.

You have brought up a lot of individual days of warm weather that don’t show an upward trend. Just saying.

Not just coast. My guess is temps in Kentucky are pretty dang low.

Low of -1 forecasted for us tonight in South Central KY. But on rare occasions we have seen -28.

What are your thoughts on man made climate change?

I believe that a power mightier than man controls what goes on with this planet.

As I indicated back in post #20, we can see a recent trend of warmer winter temps, but that means nothing in regard to anything long term. If man is making an impact, it won't be enough to cause any significant problems for the planet that needs any intervention from us.

I remember back in the 70's, the ice age was coming to get us, best increase taxes. Then acid rain, global warming, now climate change. Just pay more in taxes to the western governments, that will fix it!

The thing many people don't seem to mention - or they ignore it - is the pace of temp. change. Sure, the earth has had hotter periods, but they didn't get that way in basically 100 to 110 years. It took thousands of years for prior changes to get hotter. Science has drilled down through tens of thousands of years of ice to sample ice cores in polar regions. Those show levels of CO2 changes over those eons. There is a scientific method to measure such things. If making changes to the way we do things that lessen / mitigate greenhouse gases, such as wind, solar, nuclear, and updated hydro - what the H is wrong with those things?? Less is less!! Do we want cleaner air .... or go back to the dirtier air I remember from when I was a kid??

I can tell you this much - my Dad (raised on farms) and I were weather geeks since we hunted and fished. I, as a young kid /man, always wanted to go swimming with my buddies at the local creek - - - if we got 5or 6 summer days that hit 90 the entire summer, it was a hot summer. The 80's were the normal temps in summer back then. Kids would pray for the temp to get to 70 so the community pools would open (a minimum of 70 degrees to open). Now - we get July & August with weeks on weeks of 90 to 99 degree days. People don't sit out on their porches / decks anymore, or in the yards - too da## hot. Central AC units running non-stop everywhere. That didn't happen years ago here in Pa.

And as for those who say, "What's a 2-degree change in avg. temps going to do to the environment"? Nature is more sensitive than we humans. We have some tree species that are disappearing here because they naturally require lower temps to thrive, and bugs that used to freeze out are now surviving the warmer winters. Some of those bugs, like bronze birch borer, are thriving in these warmer winter temps and are eating the white birch to death here. BBB seem to hammer older, bigger white birch, which we are losing in the Pa. mountains. We used to have many large white birch in our mountains, which are now disappearing. The young birch that pop up after fires or mining here won't live to get to big mature size anymore. The coral reefs that are dying around the world from much warmer ocean temps are critical to many fish species that we depend on for food. Marine scientists can verify that the corals are dead / dying. All made up .......... right??? Maybe throw on a scuba suit and go with the scientists to see for yourself. See how few fish in the food chain aren't there on those reefs anymore. Polar sea ice melting big-time, as is the permafrost in our northern regions.

Many long-established wineries in Europe and North America are moving their vines to more northern, cooler regions - because the regions that for thousands of years had favorable climates for growing grapes are now too hot to keep growing grapes. You think those vineyard owners are doing that on a whim - for no reason??? Because of rumors - or because of what they see and experience since they depend on recording temps to have a thriving vineyard??

We only have this one Earth to live on. Does it make sense to just throw caution to the wind and keep polluting it because changing some of our behaviors will cause us some inconvenience?? My wife and I will buy hybrid vehicles for our next purchases. We'll use electricity for most of our driving, but still have gas engines for longer trips or back-up power. Talked to several locals who have Teslas and other electric vehicles - they love them. I'll install the charging receptacles outside for safety with all weather-proof equipment. No strain - no pain to eliminate some CO2 and nitrogen oxides in the air.

I work in power generation, so we notice weather, both good and bad. I know some places have been hotter, but in the northeast I almost think our weather is becoming more mild. Remember getting hotter weather when I was a kid. Many times I feel little need to get into the pool or creek these days. Even got a few extra pounds of insulation the past few years. MAybe its just as we age, the season seem shorter because percption of time is moving faster. Remmber the summers would last forever as a kid.

As we learn what humans have done to this place, sources of clean land and water will become more valuable. Bottled water used to be joked about, like folks making fun of folks with peanut allergies. Now most everybody is squeamish of tap water.

Used to be a billion crawfish in the creek because the dairy plant would dump whey into it.

what the H is wrong with those things??
Thank you for highlighting this enormous chasm of misunderstanding.

What’s wrong with those things?! Plenty! They have the chance to economically ruin a society and I’m not being dramatic. I work on this stuff every day in world scale petrochemical mfg. I’ve seen what it takes to take these facilities to net zero. No one could afford the products.

The scary thing is I’ve had really smart people tell me, “well .gov will just have to subsidize the products to make them affordable.”

Go back and read @Native Hunter post just a few back. Take a deep breath my man. It’s gonna be ok.

I don't know about scientific studies, but I was able to use our above ground pool fewer times this past summer than any other in the 10 years we've had one. There were about 4 days where the water temp got above 80 degrees.

Climate change aside, we drove to Kansas City for my daughter’s appointment tent a few weeks back. The smog was TERRIBLE… You could see it, and before long you could smell it through the closed windows. No way is that good…

Hah. Earlier today I asked Google what percentage of climate scientists believe in man made global warming. Coincidentally it was also 97%. Duh. That's like saying 97% of art majors believe in art.

This is exactly what has happened to our society through government corruption. No one can believe anything. I’m definitely not saying you are wrong on this. What I’m saying is we can’t trust shit. In a perfect world you could say oh 97% have done the research and it’s unequivocally man made. Now it’s like we immediately discount the scientists as acting with a some vested interest. It’s sad but I do it too. And usually for good reason. Our president just pardoned the chief medical advisor for not committing any crimes.

Guessing it was around -35 to -38F on my land this morning in NC MN. Guess I will find out how good some of my common wild apple trees are. We went into the winter in severe drought again. Dont have very much snow on the ground.

Best I got is what a shit show. Left the office @3 with light flurries and nothing on the road. 4 hours later I finally made it home driving around a bunch of idiots and getting fussed out by multiple cops on their megaphones (or whatever you call them).

Will be leaving around 5 AM to go pick up my daughter from CHOA.

-6 here with wind chill of -27
