Do You have a Favorite Hunting Show?

You guys have any good TV hunting shows you like? I found a show over the last few months that is new to me but probably old to you guys, that I like. Don't know the show name but has Bill Winke on it. He talks about plotting as well as hunting. Seems to be a decent guy. Any other shows worth mentioning?

Not much of a hunting show watcher. Most look like canned hunts.

Hate to be a Debbie downer but I never watch anymore. 17 minutes hawking bs product and 12 minutes of a)high fence hunts b) inflating scores c) "cull" bucks to get a kill.

Man is that true!

But what TV show does not hawk bs products?

Can't stand them. The hunting lifestyle portrayed in most of them does not reflect the kind of hunter I am or want to be. I think these shows also give new and/or young hunters the idea that hunting and killing a buck is as easy as these shows make it appear..."should take about 15 minutes if I throw down enough corn in the right spots."

No matter the channel, the name of the show, or the "celebrity," it's the same scripted show over and over...all wrapped up in a tight 15 minute episode.
1. Hunter talks about his/her target buck by name as heavy metal soundtrack plays in background
2. Hunter climbs into stand
3. Within 2 minutes of TV time Hunter draws back and shoots buck
4. Hunter then reacts with visible shaking and comments like "Man, I just smoked a monster!"...maybe he or she thanks God...fist pump...pounds chest, etc.
5. Hunter climbs down and tracks for 1 minute of TV time
6. Hunter is then seen holding antlers of deer and makes the obligatory comment "Man, look at the mass on this guy."
7. Queue the heavy metal....

I'm sure there are some good shows that are more enjoyable. I just haven't found them. I do go on-line and watch Dr. Woods' Growing Deer TV. There is something about his show and his message that I find less revolting. Lots of blatant commercials and adverts for this and that...but I do enjoy he show.

The Management Advantage (online)
Growing Deer TV (online)
Deer and Deer Hunting
Bucks of Tecomate
MacMillian River Adventures
Roger Raglin Outdoors

Ya gotta sit through some heavy promo material, but I never watch them live. I FF through the junk and get to the learning segments to see what they've got for pointers. The last two are good just from the standpoint that they are good story tellers and focus on the bigger picture of the experience. It's neat to see the HBK hunting moose.

Natty's description is spot on. I still watch them though.

I like midwest whitetail's online shows. The online shows are a week old and they also have some localized episodes they also talk about habitat and plotting.

Steven Rinella on Meat Eater is hands down the best representative for hunters and the outdoor industry that is currently on TV. His views on conservation and the purpose of hunting are very much in line with mine.

Benny Spies was awesome but I don't think his show is on anymore, or it changed times/channels. I do watch Midwest Whitetail and Growing Deer TV to get land management and hunting tips but they are definitely more in line with the commercialism that ruins many hunting shows.

Natty's description of the typical hunting show is pretty accurate otherwise.

Instead of watching these shows I just sit back, close my eyes, and relive all the great times I've had hunting with friends and family. Much more entertaining, although admittedly so nowhere near the amount of antlers.

If you get a chance go to Midwest Whitetail most recent episode on Bill Winkes trail cam survey.

Very good information. This is in Iowa, 70 deer we square mile with a near 1-1 buck to doe ratio. Which means he has 70 bucks approx on his farm.

The benefits of a balanced herd/with all age classes of bucks, including older bucks is stressed.

Great info for guys that own or lease farms!

Midwest Whitetail is probably the most watchable in my opinion. I will watch pieces of the other ones that is what a DVR is for!

Like others have stated I really don't watch many hunting shows anymore, they seem to be all the same with product hawking. Sounds like I'll have to check out Midwest Whitetails

Too commercialized. Sponsors need viewers to come running to buy their " monster killing secret " gadget, scent, etc. so the shows HAVE to show kills of big animals. Can't sell products with show stars going home empty-handed. 99% of shows, a massive rack is taken. Like Tooln said above, they look like canned hunts. I lost interest. More fun in the outdoors!!!

I have watched the last 2 shows of Destination Whitetail. Both shows were very interesting with not a lot of product pimping.

I have a life time friend that has a major outdoor t.v show, not deer hunting based. He actually pays the network $1,500 an episode to have it aired the last I knew. These guys producing the shows are paying for air time, the actual networks produce few if any of the shows. That is why the major pushing of products, when you are trying to make a living, plus pay the camera man, plus pay for airtime etcc... you got to push a lot of crap .... I mean products :D to stay afloat.

I know it's kind of funny that people expect a commercial free show. Impossible.

Solo Hunter, Meat Eater, Fresh Tracks, Midwest Whitetail (Online), Growing Deer (Online), Uncharted are all ones I enjoy more than the other. I find myself watching less and less of those that feature the hunter/entertainer type or those who are simply putting on a show for the camera.
