Cuddelink L series Q & A

@john volkman is there anything special that I'm gonna have to do to take my K series home offline and replace it with the L series home?

CS can move your existing cell plan to the new unit, to do so..... add the L to your account but dont pick a plan or by a plan for it, just add the device , then call cs and they can move the plan from your K to the L

John,
I have three different J-series cameras that will power up normally but cannot connect to the Cuddelink network, even when being just a few feet from the K-series Home. These all worked last year but when I went to deploy them this summer I noticed this issue. They are all on FW 8.3.

What do you recommend? Originally I was thinking about restoring the cameras to a factory default and then reloading the 8.3 FW, but I couldn't find information on how to do this. I tried to re-load the 8.3 and the cameras said SUCCESS, but it still has the connectivity issue and it is unclear if the cameras loaded the "new" 8.3.

try doing a reset under test mode then pull batteries and let screen die then put new batteries in, id also try a new antenna form a camera that is linking. if that doesnt work you can call cs and they will give you you options but if the radio went out then they likely cant be fixed. they will take them on trade towards a new L if you prefer to do that . Id also try setting one of them as a home and link it to another remote on another channel to make sure its not your K radio that is the issue as it would be odd for 3 to all go out at the same time.

These are all really great suggestions. Thanks John!

shouldnt be , there may be an update to GEn 3 coming soon so if you arent deploying quite yet , ill announce if that is released on the forum.
John, if we have already installed Gen3, will the update happen automatically as expected?

yes unless you are running a g or K home those models you may need to do another manual to the home only yet.

@john volkman Thanks for the info. What can I do with my decommissioned K camera? I'm assuming I can't use it in my network after upgrading to the L series home.

A K camera can only be a home and needs a cell plan to operate so your options are.... sell it , or you can trade it in for 30% off something else at cuddeback - I would remove it from your account once the L is activated and the plan is moved to the new home, You could also use it as a backup as the plan can be moved back if needed

Has anyone noticed that after a period of time, some cameras start to get finicky and stop responding? A manual reset/restart usually gets the camera working again, but only for a few days/weeks. I've found that replacing the SD card resolves the issues. I've had this happen on 3-4 cameras now. The oldest ones have been out for about two years. Any tips for working through this? With folks only being at camp every few weeks, it's disappointing when the cards randomly start to cause issues, especially as hunting season approaches. Any recomendations for SD cards that may last longer?

We have been seeing some weird things on Camp lately. Images missing the data bar at the bottom of the image, and some images displayed as a very small thumbnail. I still use camp since the app will not allow you to categorize images yet.

I have only had one camera that resembles this, and same, changed the card and was working last week, but I am not sure on this week. I couldn't get it to manually take a photo either.

Will a PW-3600 solar panel provide power to the camera if it is hooked to the yellow input of a dual power bank when the dual power bank has no NIMH batteries in the rechargeable side and alkaline in the secondary side? And is there a way to put the 3600’s internal battery in play with this configuration? Also can the old 3501 solar panel be used in any configuration except direct to camera. I’m looking for a way to maximize the two solary panels usage with a dual bank. I’m suspecting both options I asked about would require a brown/yellow crossover cable.

Or should I consider putting both versions of old solar panels and power bankson EBay and just replacing them with the new solar panels? This whole system is new this year.

We have an L model Zoom camera pointed over a large open area. The night pictures all seem whited out. Camera LED is set to FIELD and Motion Sense is set to OPTIMAL.

I keep having challenges with the new Generation 3 Cuddelink System. I have a network that is on an L home camera and Cuddelink keeps pushing new updates and every time it does, I keep losing remote cameras (they get disconnected or have some glitch). I have replaced multiple memory cards to get them to come back online, but this is really irritating. I have had this setup with a K camera home on this property for 4 years and hardly ever had to touch the cameras or home except to load new firmware once per year. I replaced the home with the L this year as I thought this would eliminate the need for me to even update the firmware once per year, but it has been terrible. All of the remote cameras are L cameras. Another issue seems to be getting updates to the remote cameras that are more that one link away from the home. Before I lost all the remote cameras today, I had remote cameras on several versions of the Gen 3 firmware. It looks like some updated a couple steps ahead of others. Is this causing my issue? Anyone else having issues like this???

The thumbnail images are the new Verify pictures that are taken each day for each camera. John has noted these do not count against picture counts. These do not have any data bars and are simply a nice way to ensure the cameras are working (and pointed where we left them).

I am looking forward to the additional features going live, as that will bring camp up to the other software we are using.

Appreciate the verify info. I either overlooked or forgot it🫣.

Spent last night and today updating 56 cameras (3 homes), on two properties, to 3.1 & 9.1. I’m loving what they have done so far, and looking forward to what’s to come!

I’ve had two remotes fall off this week. I can’t get to them until this weekend. Frustrating…

@john volkman I have been struggling with the new Gen 3 firmware. I have two active networks, the first, has a G home camera on 9.0.0 and 15 L cameras on 3.0.0 forward and CL version 3.0.7. This system works fine. I did have several cameras that started having issues with their memory cards, staying full and not working, but they have been replaced and all is good now. I know there is a new firmware version 9.1.0 and 3.1.0, but I am very hesitant to upload it given my issues with the second network.
The second network was on a K home originally, with 7 L camera remotes. When I moved to Gen 3, I had several issues, remotes would not connect, memory cards failed. So then I brought in an L home. Originally, this was good L home connected to all the cameras, pictures we’re sending… Then firmware updates started coming through the cell in the L home. Several of the cameras were linked through other remotes and then I started getting cameras on all different firmware and Cuddelink versions and pictures stopped sending from the older versions on the remotes (but I could still see them listed in the report). Then, in the last week, the L home updated a new version again, and then all the remote cameras lost connection with the Home.
So, yesterday, I updated the original K home with the 9.1.0 firmware and brought it back out to replace the L home. Right off the bat, several cameras connected, I received a few pictures from the remotes that were in the queue, I figured all would be good, went home. I received a report from the home with 2/3 of the remotes listed and a bunch of pictures in the queue, but no pictures are sending. The remotes that are connected are on a mix of firmware 3.1.13 & 3.0. and CL version 3.0.13 and 3.0.7. The Home is reporting firmware 9.1.0 and Cl version 3.0.8/5.5.15. I suspect the issue its all the different versions of FW and CL. There were a couple of other cameras that I added yesterday, including a G remote and another L remote both showed good Link level when they were set up, but they are not showing up in the report. My guess is they linked through another remote that is having issues talking to the home.
What do I do? This is getting very frustrating!!!

My picture queue has grown to over 50, with some pictures sitting in line for almost a week. I received a message from Cuddeback that said the engineers are working on an “incorrect routing issue with the remotes” that is causing these problems.

For those who have not followed the Exodus saga, I am glad Cuddeback still has US based engineers and is supporting their products.

I am having issues with my StealthCam system, as it will not send me videos but happily charges me for them! After two weeks I have had NO response from StealthCams customer support. The support phone and email numbers StealthCam has posted on their Command app are disconnected. I am thankful for forum members such as John who are keeping us informed and a responsive support team. While we may be frustrated that we are having issues, at least they are working on the issues, whereas StealthCam is ignoring me, as a customer.

Kudos to Cuddeback for keeping me in the loop.
