Cuddelink L series Q & A

Just learned that the Sun and Shade Solar Panel is not compatible with the dual power banks. Can I use alkaline batteries in one or both banks of the dual bank or am I just out of luck? Out of curiosity, what is the difference between the yellow connector(missing on the big solar panel) and the brown connector on the smaller panel?
From my perspective using a power bank with cam and sun and shade panel would be a total waste. The panel with back up batteries in the cam have my cams running for 2 years (so far) without touching them. If I remember correctly. The brown connector on both panels use the panels internal battery. The yellow connector on the small panel was meant to provide solar output only to an intermediate battery pack between the panel and camera. But I’m not really sure because I never used the yellow connector when I had the small panels.

Thanks. Just curious about what te difference would be between the two connections. Seems like they would both draw juice from the batteries in the panel and send it out the wire to the other end, either driving a camera or balancing voltage to the bank’s batteries. Now I’m not sure how to connect up the devices.

Is the app the only way to register a product for the extended warranty? Is there a way to display which units has already been registered?

You can do it on Cuddeback's website. You have to log in.

best practice is to use the panel with camera empty or panel with 4 alkaline batteries in camera as back up - brown to brown for your connection panel to camera

Is rhe Power House a stand alone camera or will it forward pictures from other cameras in the network. I just activated one and can’t find the link menu in order to set the link ID. Can’t find any documentation pointing me to it.

Pretty sure the yellow connector on the old solar is straight off the solar panel and bypasses the batteries in the panel all together. No need to use it at all unless you are doing something exotic or old school. If you are in full sun, just use the brown connector, and if you are not in full sun, you probably need to upgrade to the sun & shade panel.

if it says powerhouse cell on the box its likely a stand alone camera, it would also only have 2 antennas if its a stand alone cell, those cant link

You would not think that a 2nd downloaded copy of a file would make you want to pull your hair out, but believe me it will! Do not leave the file on your card that has a (1) or any other parenthesis. It will give you a SD card error on your camera when you try and download to the camera. Luckily the tech lady at Cuddeback knew what was causing the error almost as soon as the words came out of my mouth. Wasted 2 hours and alot of cuss words before I broke down and called.

I have a brand new L series camera that wasn't showing me the full menu selection options. I looked a long time on the Cuddeback site and searched the web on how to fix the issue, reset the camera etc... Never could find it. Called tech support again, which I have to say has been on their game every time and they had my issue resolved in short order. Anyway there is a sequence to run the camera through to get it to show the full menu, the tech made it seem like that was how the new L series cameras are, but if so then why is it so hard to find the instructions for "installing" the full menu. ?

gen 3 auto loads to the new simple user interface as the old one proved too complicated for some - to go back to the old interface just power down the camera - then press the more button(bottom left button) until it powers back up and it will prompt the old interface -
with the new app, the simple user interface does everything you need on the camera and all other commands are done on the app or in camp. We announced it on here and the pages but it may not be in the manual, the goal is to get everyone using the simple interface since it will cut way down on CS calls , mistakes and inadvertent settings adjustments which lead to user frustration. An example is, how many people set time lapse without realizing it, they then call upset because they are getting so many blank pictures.

Makes sense for the reasoning and I overlooked comments on it before. I dont use the app. The camera was functioning and I looked on the device settings through Camp, but it only had 3 fields available for settings. Maybe I just needed to give it more time to upload the other fields in Camp?

i should have been more clear, there are some features that are only avialable in the app , at least for now anyways. So if you only use camp there are some things you won't be able to utilize. It will likely be next year before camp has all the functionality, we need to keep camp as is for all the users who havent updated to Gen 3. If you arent on gen 3, you cant do anything on the new app but look at pictures.

All my cameras are updated to Gen 3

@john volkman I currently have a Cuddelink network up and running with a K series camera as my home. I've been contemplating adding on to my network with some L series cameras. My question is would I be better served by adding just a couple of cameras or replacing my K series home with a new L series home and a couple of L series cameras? I know I'm going to lose out having another camera in my network if I do that but is there any advantage to replacing my K series?

i would switch out to the L home, i did the same thing with my G homes this year, switched them all to L series. better case design, dual sim card in the L, over the air updates once you load Gen 3, and the home unit works more efficiently when all it does is receive and send images,

@john volkman makes sense. Thank you for the reply and insight. The rest of my network is comprised of G series, will there be any issues with still using the G's along with the L series home?
