Cuddelink general Q&A recommendations

It's a series L home unit. Not a camera. Thanks

L series home can be used as a home but its designed to be cellular, you need an active plan to access many of the settings , time date , hi res images etc - if you dont wan ot run it that way, you can buy a monthly plan, set everything the way you want it and cancel the plan, in that respect it will cost you $15 to set everything up the way you want it but then its done. The other option is to make one of your remote cameras the home in link menu, then you can set the time on that unit and the rest will sync to it and it wont cost you anything, if you plug the L cell home into it the remainder will sync to its time and it wont be correct . the L home units are sold at a loss with the idea the cell plan will help pay for the cost since it has a cell modem and a link radio in it but retails for the same as the remote cameras.

Thank you John. That answered my question. I'm new to Cuddeback.

@john volkman, what does 3.4 fix? That bug isn't fixed in 3.3?

What this firmware does
CuddeLink GEN 3 version 3.2.0 has a bug that affects a small portion of users. This bug prevents some photos from being sent and over the air updates from working properly. GEN 3 firmware 3.4.0 fixes these issues.

3.3 was the main fix regarding the routing bug - 3.4 just adds some functionality in regards to the trends feature, you can keep using 3.3 unless its convenient to update 3.4

Can’t say I’m excited about the range on these L series. How far out are they meant to detect?
I would say the detection range is half of what my old cameras were before switching. Not good.

How do you have them set? Detection range increases when you adjust "motion sense". Bump it up to High 2 and see what you think. High 4 will detect fairly far. Sometimes far enough where you don't get a great picture of the critter.

Hmm. Have them all set to high 4.

I have been a little frustrated by my L cameras not taking photos of obvious things walking in front of them lately. Though not long ago I was having issues with some cameras being overly sensitive taking pictures of moving vegetation. 🤔 Hopefully all these little glitches iron themselves out sooner than later. Not sure if all these issues are related to all these updates being pushed out?

if you have them on current firmware , (gen 3 which is at least 3.3 or 3.4 version) , waist high or LOWER and level and they arent detecting animals long way out something is wrong, i run high 2 and get rabbits and squirrels etc and deer further than i want to detect. Make sure you do walk test and walk past your cameras at different ranges when setting up to confirm they are aimed correctly. The L series is WAY more sensitive than the J G and K series.

Updates have nothing to do with sensing if you are on Gen 3 firmware -if they arent sensing when you think they should, be you need to walk test them and see if they actually are not sensing. 99% of the time when i trouble shoot with people on the belief the cameras arent sensing its a settings issue or a aiming /height issue.

All my cameras are on 3.4. I drive by and walk by some of my cameras as I go into and out of my hunting areas as I do habitat word. It will take a picture some days as I am going by in one direction, but not the other and it is one way in and out so I know I went by the camera twice. Maybe it’s not a lack of taking a picture, but the lack of transmitting it 🤷‍♂️. I just know that some of these cameras are in the same locations they have been since they were deployed and it wasn’t a problem until the last several months.

1. look at the fresnel lens, if they are faded to white or almost white its time to replace them and they cost $2 and easy to replace.
2. Do an actual test , set your delay at 5 seconds - start at 5-10 feet , walk ACROSS the field of view of the camera (important to do it this way as walking at or away or at an angle can have different results, wait the required delay or more , then walk across at 15ft , repeat the same out to 30-40 feet if you have it on high motion sense
3. wait a couple of cell transmissions, i set mine at 1 hour - then check the APP or CAMP ( not email or text)for the images ensuring you date range is correct. IF they are there, then you will know its sensing , if not ,check your sd card to see if they are on the card.
