Cuddelink general Q&A recommendations

what version firmware and did you run a cell test after replacing batteries ? are you getting reports ?
No reports. I forget the update number……maybe 9:1. I got the card from vuddeback to do the updates in August.

unfortunately , we need to get you on 9.2 as it likely will fix what you re experiencing

Correct me if I am wrong John, but don’t the L series require 3.2 and not 9.2?

correct , 9.2 on G, K and J and 3.2 on L - but both can be loaded on the same card to update all

I did not know there was another update after I got the card from Cudde. Dang.....I wish I had just left them be. I dont have time to fool around with updates if I gotta do more. Grrrr. Now I dont have pics.

The last pics I have are from 9/14 when I "upgraded" with the new chip from Cudde.

Overall I’m very happy with the new firmware capabilities. But the 3.0/9.0, 3.1/9.1, 3.2/9.2 manual upgrades have been frustrating with the farm 800 miles from my residence. And the 3.2/9.2 update last weekend did not go seamlessly. For some reason 4 L cameras got stuck saying they were on a Beta firmware (00 00 51, or something like that), even though they were updated with the same 3.2/9.2 SD card I used on all 48 cameras. I finally pulled the 4 cameras from the field and took them back to the shop for more tries. Not sure if it was the time delay between tries or just the sheer number of tries, but finally got the final 4 updated and redeployed. Not one of those 4 cameras, but another L camera I updated has not made contact since the upgrade. Can be frustrating at times, especially this close to hunting seasons, but keep the advancing capabilities coming Cuddelink!!!

Also, please get the IOS app and the web browser viewers working the same, combining the best features of each into both versions. The app on my iPad is best for looking at images and marking favorites. But I miss the ability to categorize images that only seems available on the web viewer.

Thanks so much, Steve.

I ordered the Gen 3 chip from Cudde at 8 am this morning. Kinda frustrating experience in that I thought the firmware I ordered about a month ago was supposed to solve these issues. I find it a bit strange that they followed with the Gen 3. Musta been some kind of needed changes....I dunno. I can understand that the real cell cam geeks want this stuff...but sometimes I am better waiting a few years to allow the tech to be more mainstream before I enter the now established uses..

I cannot keep up with tech sometimes. I really like "easy". I can follow along with some advanced tech if I put my mind to it.....but lack the time and temperament to learn all this electronic stuff. Still, it keeps advancing, and once you "get there" it seems worth it.

I think the new cars are so much more advanced in recent years if I compare to where tech in cars began. My new Hyundai Pallisade has so many nice features via cameras and sensors...that it now feels like a necessity. The thing is....they have integrated a user-friendly approach to this new tech. My freind in OZ bought a new Tesla with self driving features....and he gave me a demo. Holy Harry that was an experience. I am not ready for that bullchit yet. Grin. Still....never say never. Grin.

Also, FYI. I guess the thumbnail verify is a good thing coming, especially on the iPad app where they are under a separate tab. But having them mixed in with the regular images on the web browser is bothersome to me.

I updated 20 cameras yesterday, it's been off line now for 12 hours. Looks like I will be taking another drive today.

FOrced a cell test, and instantly showed 14 cameras are connected. Should I visit the ones not connected or give it a while? They should have all linked up after 24 hours?

Ran one more cell test, everything is connected. Fabulous. Now my complaint is I cleared all the ques while updating and still got pictures of myself. I find it frightening.

John,

I loaded 9.2/3.2 on Friday across the 9 camera system on the 19th. The first report showed 8 cameras. Now I am down to 2. Some are sending LOTS of pictures.

This is the time of year I am needing the cameras, so any assistance would be helpful.

John- I’ve been running some g series cameras behind the house with an old home unit (no camera) in the house. I have a couple new L strobes coming now. Guessing that I need to update software on everything to get the new cameras to work on my system? No side effects or features that I may lose if I update this older home camera system, correct? Thanks!

Until John replies…. I have 2 home G’s that I upgraded to 3.2/9.2 last week and they seem to be working well with a mix of G, J, and new L cams. Except one L cam on each system that seems to need some more attention.

I picked up a strobe and zoom recently about the same time as the 3.0 was released. They both had beta FW and the update process is a little different. I cannot explain it other than I had to cycle the power once after start up and it gives a load FW option.

L will work out of the box with G on 8.3 - you wont need to update to get them to connect if that is what they are on

Pretty frustrated with Cuddeback right now. Nearly two weeks ago, I thought I was going to upgrade my set up with new firmware when I bought a card from Cudde as I could not successfully download the firmware (after more hours of frustrating attempts). I installed the "updated" firmware to all my cameras and the cameras all said "success". Only to later find out that by loading the "new firmware" my cams now could not send pics as they had in the past....as the "new" firmware was in some way "corrupt" (my terms). I suppose Cudde has another term for bad Ju-Ju. ....I digress.

Grrrr. Decided to buy another NEW firmware update rather than repeat the frustrating hours spent last go-around (I simply do not have the time) and I again paid another $15 dollars last Friday to get a new card. Now a week later....and no card. They could not just put it in the mail that day....and I would have had it no later than Monday.....but NO they had to wait till Monday to make a table and I suppose another day to get it to the post office. Grrrrr....still no firmware card....despite having to deal with a gal on the phone that I had to repeat everything three times and listen to her cough and wheeze due to som kinda flue-like sickness.

Really a frustrating experience. Not happy right now....and this is NOT the Cudde I had experienced up to this point. Quit using your customers to proof your work. Do your own due dilligence or you will lose customers. I do not need this right now. My 2 cents.

I really appreciate the work of John here....he is aces in my book.....but Cudde is dropping the ball here lately. Don't do this to people! Do your own damn homework. I do not have the time for this. The juice is not worth the squeeze for me right now. You have a good product.....don't take shortcuts. All tech biz is very fragile. Your close to losing me. Just saying.

What I am puzzled about is how this seems to be a hit and miss problem. I installed the 3.1 on all my cameras and have had no issues since doing so. Lord knows with all the troubles many of you seem to be having I am not updating anything further, knock on wood, unless forced to. I agree this was a terrible time of year to be introducing a new firmware that may not have been tested thoroughly enough prior to release.

They did not need to do this to their customers. Cudde took a good thing and made it into a nightmare for me. Evidently they rushed this to market and it is a disaster....at least for me. Sadly they "gave" the cards to many and made others "like me" pay for them. Not sure what to think. Tech products are difficult for sure.....and many of Cudde's customers are not 100% tech savvy (like me).

I want to buy products that are user friendly and don't require a degree in rocket science in order to operate. I do not intend to read all the recent updates by John (thank you John) in order to keep a few cameras running and up to speed. I got waaaay to many other fish to fry....I assure you.

I bought Cudde (largely) as they have the only system that does not require so many fees from the the cellular providers. I hate fees. But the cost is only one part of the equation.. Ease of use and reliability will trump that cost in the long run. As said, right now.....this juice is not worth the squeeze. I am now somewhat reliant on Cell Cam pics.....as I lack the time to check individual cameras on a regular basis....and it disturbs my deer......and I do like the low monthly costs of the Cudde system.....but these recent issues are very hard to accept. My 2 cents.

I was not going to update my 3.1/9.1 this close to hunting season, because they seemed fine, until they didn’t. When my picture count went up and a few cameras had pics in the queue I realized I was not getting everything on multiple cameras.

So made a special (long distance) trip to upgrade to 3.2/9.2. Several cameras were reluctant to take that firmware, but finally got them all upgraded. After a little over a week, it seems all but 2 are working properly. They both show up on the report as updated with pics in the queue, but are not sending pics. I’ll work on them next visit, but wonder if the SD cards reseated properly after the update. I’ll just swap out new SD cards when I get there and see what happens.

I’m further suspicious of the SD card seating and making proper contact on every pin, because reseating the card multiple times was the usual solution when the firmware did not update properly the first time.

But as Foggy says it is frustrating and I wish Cudde did better testing before deployment. On the other hand, I probably would have risked a beta firmware to get the high resolution option we now have. Cost of being on the cutting edge I guess.

And yes - John is an awesome resource to us on this forum. I’m not on Facebook or other mainstream social media, so his participation here is priceless!

I am unclear as to why folks need to buy the SD card from Cuddeback? I am sure some folks might not have an SD card slot on their computer, but you can buy a plug in SD card slot reader for little of nothing and then you can download the firmware right from the Cuddeback site to a SD card you have on hand. Not trying to sound like a know it all, because I am most definitely not when it comes to electronics). At least you would not have to wait on Cuddeback to send you the SD card then.

And John is definitely a huge asset to this site and Cuddeback.
