Crabapple timeline

Here is another seedling where I could reach a few crabs. I have no notes on parentage, but it resembles a chestnut in looks.

My taste says high acid, but still edible. Should be good in hard cider blend if I can figure the process out.

...I do have a half gallon fermenting right now.

I’ve been scouting local neighborhood trees the past 4 years. I’ve ran across some real winners. Interesting crab I’ve been watching for awhile now. Anybody have any idea of what it could be? Notice the calyx end?!?!?C2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpegC2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpeg65F49D53-FF6C-4B90-9424-877570CCB1F2.jpeg74EBCE4A-1802-4439-BEE5-D6D30DE04DDB.jpegC2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpeg65F49D53-FF6C-4B90-9424-877570CCB1F2.jpeg74EBCE4A-1802-4439-BEE5-D6D30DE04DDB.jpegC2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpeg74EBCE4A-1802-4439-BEE5-D6D30DE04DDB.jpeg74EBCE4A-1802-4439-BEE5-D6D30DE04DDB.jpegC2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpeg65F49D53-FF6C-4B90-9424-877570CCB1F2.jpeg74EBCE4A-1802-4439-BEE5-D6D30DE04DDB.jpegC2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpegC2CF5A36-7CA3-4C8B-A2A6-4C2933702646.jpeg65F49D53-FF6C-4B90-9424-877570CCB1F2.jpeg74EBCE4A-1802-4439-BEE5-D6D30DE04DDB.jpeg

Dang it. Sorry about the repeat pictures.

Looks like a good find, KickapooKid#1.

This picture makes me wonder if Golden Hornet has a 4 month drop time.

I have golden hornet in the late dropping category. I tried one today and it wasn’t horrible. I probably have 50-75 on a 7’ tree. It has made it it through some bad winters so I think I am in the clear with this one. Very clean tree as well.

I agree on being clean. It survived last winter for me, for a buddy about 30 miles west of me, and for you. Must be pretty dang hardy.

Found an interesting one today purely by accident behind a building near work. Tree looks nice and healthy but there was very little fruit on it this year, good one to keep an eye on down the road. Here is one I was able to reach. 2A539DCC-F2C5-4852-9191-BB160B05DB3B.jpeg

I have been looking recently for crabs all around me. There are quite a few more than I even realized. Most of them are fingernail size though. I've been trying them out but none have been ripe yet...either that or they were bitter.

Think cider!

Tapatalk wouldn’t allow me any more pictures in September. They also cut me off for high quality pictures unless I pay for VIP. I can see the picture quality is not as good.

It shows some scab or some sort of disease, but it doesn’t seem to matter for a deer tree. Big crops every other year and not much other care. Usually a few apples on down years.

I have put a few apples in cider, but they are pretty much just for the deer.

Sandbur, one more question. Which of these crabs is the most disease resistant?
Buckman
Big Dog
Yellow Dog

Thanks
