Concordia Oaks and Swamp / Bur Hybrids

Growth from Concordia acorns...very swamp white esque

Growing in trays to see if I can locate ones with the best fall color for the driveway to the cabin. They should make a nice companion alternating with the albas up the drive on both sides.

If pollination was good this year, there are piles of peduncles that will be holding some acorns this fall.

No additional top growth the past 2 weeks after the big initial flush of growth. Hopefully that means they are busy putting down roots. This one put out some really big leaves

Takes all summer to harden off the new growth to survive winter I think.

For those of you with the swamp burs / schuette's, do they have the corky bark of the burs or flakey bark of the swo's?
My schuette's from Nativ have neither.

I’d have to look again, and take pics. I don’t have any big ones, mostly 10 yrs or less . This one is by my office and I’m pretty sure it’s the hybrid, but I had an oak enthusiast say it’s more like a Bur Oak ?

I checked on some of my Concordia oaks yesterday and their mortality rate seems to be lower than many other oaks I’ve planted maybe as good at Nuttall oak at surviving transplanting.

I think these were spring of ‘23 18” bare root swamp bur oaks from Kelly’s in ia. They had a min order and I just don’t need many or I’d try to buy more!

It’s been a good year to plant these Swamp Burs, & Swamp White Oaks …as the amount of rain has been ideal !
