Concordia Oaks and Swamp / Bur Hybrids

I have had a few Swamp Bur Oaks die in Minnesota. Not sure if it’s the col snap last winter ? Drought ? I don’t know.

Should not be an issue for states like Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, etc…

Just thought I’d let you know. The ones I planted on hills or side hills are alive . These were in a bottom ?
What zone in Minnesota or area?

Put 27 Concordia oak acorns in potting soil today. They came from a grafted Concordia oak tree I made from 3 trees with the best fall color. It’s growing with a regular white oak (Quercus alba) along with a bur x chinkapin hybrid graft that’s also producing acorns.

The expected cross as some point is going to be something wild with all that miscegenation.

I should have some this fall pending pollination.

That grafted concordia also has a burxchinkapin hybrid on it producing....so the possibly hybrids are endless.

The alba growing alongside has some epicormic branching going on that I'm going to let manifest to graft more hybrids on as well.

My coworker text me this morning he planted 100 Concordia last spring and said he checked on them this weekend and only 4 didn’t leaf out he is very happy about that mortality rate. I’ve planted maybe that many myself but was using them as filler trees for other oaks that died in my 12 acre planting so I don’t know really where all they are at out there.

I would be interested in a few acorns, myself.

Here's what I believe to be a Deamii oak that is grafted to that concordia next to the alba.

Iowa State Nursery has a few of their Bottomland Bur Oaks left and they are 30% off. This is the same tree I have shown in this thread that I have gotten incredible growth out of. https://nursery.iowadnr.gov/Bottomland-Bur-Oak_p_209.html
Dang.. I should have planted that tree in Monona County, Iowa.. new tree planting !

I did plant Swamp White Oak, Pin Oak, Bur Oak & a few Chinkapin Oaks IMG_8028.jpeg

Can you post a couple new pics of that bottomland oak?

Have you checked them again recently? I’ve got some that have 8” of new growth already and a bunch that are just starting to break buds.

For the most part it looks like the Swamp Burs died in just one spot . Low area, that’s close to a crop field …

Froze, spray drift, drought, lack of attention? I’m not concerned about it. I’ll keep planting them !
