I have done both but after a few years the mix seems to turn to all switch, the mix was big blue, Indian and cir.

Mine is an Ernst Seed mix. 31%Big Blue, 25% Riverbank Wildrye, 15% Shawnee Switch, 8% Partridge Pea, 4% Indiangrass, 3%Blackeyed Susan, 2% Oxeye Sunflower, and 2% Purple Coneflower. (percentages are rounded and not exact).

I planted a mix as well of switch, big blue and Indian - only the switch took. I have not yet seen the "aggressive" nature of the switch yet either that some folks report. I had to plant all 3 to make my CRP folks happy, but for some reason only the switch did anything. If you don;t want to have to use a special drill for planting......just use switch - you can broadcast it like clover seed
