Chief River Nursery

Yeah I received my package yesterday. Everything looks good and I'm going to plant today. I received my whitetail hill the day before so now I'm overwhelmed too haha. Neither company sent me an email, just the UPS notifications.

The supplier cannot send out a notification it has shipped, that's the job of the freight carrier. They won't send out a notice that it shipped until it leaves their facility and they have assigned a tracking #. Pretty common.

ummm I get emails from online companies all the time that my order has shipped. I'm not saying it's required or anything just that I'm used to that. If I didn't have the fedex and ups apps on my phone I'd have never known they were coming at all.

This is part 2 of 2 long videos, but my experience with chief river. I'll note that my whitetail chestnut bare root's are already putting on leaves, but persimmons are not. So far my chief river oaks have not put on green leaves, but it hasn't been long. I'll keep the thread updated with how they do.

They're all getting crazy. The SWCD tree sales still seem like really good deals, but as most have discovered, the timing can get tricky if you don't have a wide open spring calendar.

This is the price list from Chief River on 2-3' ROD bare roots. This is why I get excited about moving around and clearing around what is already on or near my property. Had I bought 50 quantity of 2' dogwoods from them, it would have cost nearly $700 after shipping. I rounded mine up in ten minutes just walking around the bush just off my yard. I'm crazy, but I'm not $700 for one dogwood experiment crazy.

The chief river price on what I pulled from under the powerlines and off my own property this season would have been over $2,000.
That pricing is honestly ridiculous. We buy from Yellow River Nurseries up in Marshfield and we got 100 36-48" for $2.97 each. They are doing awesome.

I've generally found that vendor shopping for bareroots is the way to go. Some seem to have good deals on some varieties and stupid prices on others. I found chief river was solid on doug fir's.

The other thing that I've learned over the fast few years is that it's probably better to pay more for a variety that is native to your area and you could save more in the long run with a higher survival right.
