Cereal Grains for Whitetails

I planted my fall plots this weekend and had mama and her fawns on 2 of the 3 when I came back within the hour. It's almost like they hear you working out there and as soon as it quiets down they come to check out what you did.

Timing is everything when putting in food plots and I was really lucky by getting these couple cereal grain plots in last Sat., they were going in no matter what. We received an 1" of rain on Tues/Wed and they are off to a good start. I forgot my phone so trail cam pics will have to do.

Been working quite a bit lately and haven't had time for any updates, my son pulled my cards yesterday and here's a couple pics of my cereal grain plots. Looks like it's doing good and being used.

Based on the last pic I'd say they like what your doing.

They are really hitting the cereal grains right now, brassicas not so much but they will.

Scott do u shoot does? If not when was the last time? I see mainly old sows, and two fawns, maybe 3 fawns. I think your density is higher than mine. Remember it's density, and yours is off the charts.
Nice looking plots, pretty easy and you prove the doubters rye can't be planted too thick. That disc is the best way to do it.

We take probably 3-5 does a year and actually their numbers are down a little, I live in Amish country here so most they also shoot whatever is brown.

I guess these pics aren't much different than ones I've posted here before but they show that cereal grains are still feeding the deer here and are some of the only greens still around. You can see in the first pic the oats is starting to die and turn brown and the rye is still green. These plots were planted a couple weeks earlier than normal and are a little taller than normal but that doesn't seem to bother them. They are using the plots day and night, dates are right but times are off.

These cereal grains used to be much taller, they are keeping it clipped pretty good.
