Where there's one cow where it shouldn't be means there will soon be more. Stupid things. Surprised they aren't standing on the dock.
THIS! This is one of the reasons they taste so good. Bacon is great for the same reason. There's a certain level of satisfaction in killing and eating something who's stupidity is so problematic.

They also seem to be drawn like a magnet to ground blinds. I have yet to ever put one up in a pasture and not immediately had them feel like it should be their new favorite place to hang out. Though I thought maybe they would be like a confidence decoy... LOL. Until one spooks because you move in the blind and then they all run for a few seconds.

They're vining up the milo stalks. Sunflowers are not very thick in there. I probably didn't relay that well in the other post.
I don't think they eat them. But, they harass them relentlessly. Wasps and wood bees have been absent since the swallows moved in. Both were a problem before.

I always learn something from you. That stuff is fascinating.
I've got to move cameras this weekend. If I have wasps in the woodchip pile, I'll move that bucket camera rig over there and set it up. I should probably set it to video for something like that.

Funny. I found several piles of bear crap a couple years ago that were 95% yellow jackets. Bear must have dug up a nest of them. I can't imagine how they went down.

For yrs I fought them. Tore down nests as they built them on the house. Didn't want bird crap all over the place. Then spend the summer spray wasps and wood bees.
Then covid happened and I had to do a lot of zoom meetings. Would drive my truck out into the pasture and park near the herd. It was a happy place. I'd put the phone on my dash and pretended to pay attention (I really did pay attention, but it was tough). Every morning a huge flock of swallows came up from a bridge a mile away and swarmed the herd. Would eat flies right off their backs, and anything that they kicked up out of the grass. This was a good thing! So I quit fighting them on the house. Been wasp and wood bee free ever since (except for in the shed).

If they weren't such a crap factory I would let them be. They always seem to nest in the worst places for keeping the mess down. I have plenty of buildings where I would let them nest, but they always seem to choose the front porch.

Finally making some progress on the basement finish. I'm sloooooowly doing it myself (didn't want to pay the interest with hiring done on the initial construction loan).

And the kid's bedroom is completed. Finished the trim today. Ignore the mess, everything needed moved to get to baseboards and corners.

Getting a pretty good idea of what the goofy buck is going to look like this yr. 3 points on each side with a common base. Forms kind of a cradle. Not really much there that's typical. I'm intrigued by what he might look like in 5 or 6 yrs. The odds of that happening seem low though.

We had one last year that had a crazy 3rd beam and junk everywhere. In velvet he was a 15 pointer at least. Adding up inches he would have gone 170"+ and was real exciting. About 3 weeks after shedding he started shifting off of us but ended up busting everything off, I would've bet he lost 40"+. Came back for the typical Nov 10 visit and looked like a shell of his velvet self. Assuming he got shot, haven't seen evidence of him yet this summer. Not the best pic, but you get the idea.

What a great buck! Did he stay on your place most of the yr, then roam during the rut? Hope he's still walking and comes back to ya, but sometimes that's a longshot.
