Catscratch House and Habitat build

What a great buck! Did he stay on your place most of the yr, then roam during the rut? Hope he's still walking and comes back to ya, but sometimes that's a longshot.
Around here we get a fair amount of bucks that have a different home range in the summer than they do in the fall. Those deer usually make their shift to the fall range between Sept 15 and Oct 15 (when the bachelor groups break up) and then mostly stay in their new area all fall except peak rut when they often return to their summer range looking for last available does.
It is more rare than not that we have a buck live on us all summer and fall although it does happen.
So far no luck on this guy but ya never know.

I'd say we see the same thing here.

Yea that is pretty normal for a buck scenario. Only exception I know of is when you have the only cover for miles. Velvet bucks like good air flow and cover that is easy to navigate.

Yep your plots look nice.

Finally got the dock extension done. The green gate/plywood redneck thing seems to work great. Now we don't need to swim in coontail to get out of the pond.

I’m envious that you have already started planting and of how good everything looks. I know you are proud. Great job!

Lol, best yr ever for plots... will probably be the worst yr ever for hunting.

Our acorn crop looks pretty strong this year, not as good as 2 years ago, but good enough that the deer are probably going to be "forest" residents once the acorns start dropping, until they are mostly gone or the rut kicks in.

I haven't seen a single acorn yet this yr. We've lost a ton of mature trees in the last 5 or so yrs.

Then your plots should be the golden ticket!

My small clover plots and any clover in the orchards is just stems now thanks to grass hoppers, army worms are moving from grass to soybeans and now in milo. My SIL that farms is trying to get all the milo sprayed before rains

Deer like edge so I often mow short paths into my thick plots. See deer in those paths often. Usually see them in the paths before they come out to the more open plots. Kind of a test to see if it's safe.

Last night the goofy buck gave us a good show. Hit all the plots and the orchard before dropping down to the ag (bean) fields. The more he grows the neater he gets to me.

How tall are those sorghum heads? They look like they’re up there a ways.

Those pics might be a little deceiving. It's nipple (my nipple... not a low hung nipple like Sydney Sweeney type of thing) to head high, with several fliers that are way high. 4-5 foot on average? I quit trying to walk into it quite some time ago as it's just to thick and high to be worth the fight.
