Buck down "Not"

No, I rolled the dice. I may loose this game. But ya never know, hopefully he's a regular again in January.
Hope you get another crack at him if you decide to take him or a better one!

Video is crap! I didn't pick the camera up this time until I decided in N. MO he needed another year for me personally.
In parts of the country this guy would be a giant. Sometimes I hesitate to share, but figure everyone like deer pics :)

Nothing special at my farm except geography. 150 yards rifle season. I was zoomed in trying to follow him, so yes, again the video is crap!

Don't hesitate. Was he headed northeast by chance? Maybe he will make it to my place by Saturday :emoji_thinking:

Bill - In Pa., a buck like that wouldn't even be a question. 99.99% would pull the trigger on him - and I'd be in the 99%. It would be a RARE opportunity to see one better than that here.

Thanks for sharing the video !!

There's not a ton better here but there are some that squeak by. Just helped the neighbors hunters load two up. Both were in the 120 to 125 inch range. Don't know why I'm passing on these guys but I just want to try and see if someone will make it. What's the old saying, you can't control anything but yourself. Pretty disheartening but I figure it's only a one season to experiment.

I now pass on smaller bucks here myself, Bill. If given a shot at a legal " handful " sized rack or passing him up for another year of growth (hopefully) - I'll pass. It's my own opinion, but I'd rather shoot a 18" to 20" spread 120" buck than a legal (points-wise) 70" to 80" buck. Other camp members will shoot those smaller bucks. It's just MY choice at this stage of my hunting career.

Good luck growing him bigger, Bill. Your odds are better where you hunt.

Haven't seen the first buck from my original post in a long time but I'm still holding out hope....

Buck from post 42 was alive and well yesterday. If he makes it through today which is the last day of doe only. He has a shot.. I don't count doe only for much in this neck of the woods.

Nice thread Bill

I sure try and pass on smaller bucks, especially knowing what comes through my farm. But I have been known to drop a basket rack just because he was a fat and sassy deer that got in front of me at the wrong time. We love to eat venison at our house so on any given day my priority for a big mature buck may bend a little.
I've even shot a basket during gun season after passing nicer bucks earlier with a bow......it's a weird phenomenon I go through at times.

I hear you! My trigger control was better this year than ever before. Don't know if that's good or bad, I still have tags.
But I sure understand shooting one if he moves you at the moment.

Buck 42 is kicking as of this afternoon but if he keeps walking around before dark that could change in a hurry...

The last gun season ended this past Tuesday the 2nd. Very happy to see Buck 42 "post 42" was alive this morning.
Not shooting him was the right decision. The buck from post 1, not so much, he's been gone since about the first of October and will likely never return. I hope whoever shot him was excited as all get out to do so and deserved it....

Bill, my big drop tine buck that I passed the last two years was my only target this year. Last pic of him was around Labor Day. I don't rifle hunt, normally. He showed back up Nov 12. Passed a lot of bucks most would have killed hoping to kill him. He made it through rifle. Guess I'll try to kill him as a 6.5 year old.

Can't like that enough. It's great to know a god one made it!

Well, well,
The Buck from post 42 finally showed back up. Looks like he may have gained a smidge of tine length but he didn't blow up into buck McNasty.

I pass a lot of bucks - only for them to be killed by someone else. I think I have killed one buck in the past six or seven years. We used to average killing a 125” or bigger deer off our land every year. But too many years of killing too many does has reduced the deer herd to the point there are very few 120” 3.5 yr old bucks slipping through the cracks. We now hunt older bucks - 4.5 yr old deer or older, with 120” racks instead of 4.5 yr old 140” deer. Deer in my neck of the woods will usually be a special deer at 3.5 if they are going to be a special deer at 5.5. If we have a deer that is a 115” 3.5 year old - he is probably not going to blow up into a 150” 5.5 yr old. It

He seems to have put more growth on. Probably done now. It will be interesting to see him with hard antlers and compare it to last year. They all look good in velvet. Kinda like closing time :emoji_astonished:

And no signs of the buck that started this thread. Haven't seen him since about two weeks after I passed him. I just hope if someone got him they were inside out excited about it.

He looks good Bill! I think hes grown well from last year! Browtines look real good and hes got matching G4's. Go get him!

Well the buck originally posted last year post 42 and 55 from this year just bought it.

That makes both the deer I let walk last year in this post "gone"...

Neighbors a nice guy so I'm happy for him. He broke his right brow sometime in the last few weeks.
