I was at work, enjoying how dead it is this time of year on Sundays. And on the side of the road I see a hen. I slow down for a look on the way by.

I'm getting closer and closer... that's odd, why's she just standing at the edge of the sidewalk? Trying to make up her mind if she's going to cross the road? (maybe she didn't know why she would?) Just then a poult runs out in front of me, I take evasive action and go around, then pull off to the side to watch. A couple hops and it finally makes it over the curb.
But momma stays where she is. More to come? She's making noise like there is. After much delay, tail end charlie finally pops out of the grass, crosses the road and hits the curb. I guess the runt of the litter. Tries and tries and tries. Can't get over the curb. Goes down the road one way and tries some more. Then goes back the other way and tries some more. By this time momma seems to have lost her patience and has gone up the hill and into the woods. I guess he wore himself out because the little bugger is no longer trying to get over the curb, he's just walking down the road going the wrong way, getting farther and farther away. The next curb cut is probably a 1/4 mile or more away and even though the curb was getting lower, he wasn't trying. We have lots of hawks and an osprey nest within sight of where we were. I figure if a car doesn't squish'm , he'll be lunch. So I went and gave him a boost.
I was more concerned with what I was doing, so I missed the important part.
