Bluehill 2025

The soil in my yard is terrible once you go down 3". Surprisingly it was a productive peach and apple orchard before the homes were built.
Same thing in our neighborhood. It was an apple orchard.

Not sure about zone 3, but TP's one of the better growing varieties I have, along with Yates. No apples yet. Pretty sure Im going into year 4 for my first BH trees.
October Crab and Goldrush produced last year.
My 3 and 4 year old TP's have blossoms this year, along with October Crab and Goldrush. Nothing on the same aged: Kerr, buckman, Arkansas Black, chestnut, candy Crab, Yates, for reference.

Thanks for the yard compliment. I'm the only DIY guy in my neighborhood. I'll usually fertilize it once in the spring and spray it once, when the nutsedge pops. I actually have more dandelions than I've had in a while, but only in once section of the back yard. I'll probably spray it this weekend. I think the lawn looks as good as the neighbors who spend thousands on multiple fertilizer and herbicide treatments.

I'll prune the lower stuff shortly. I wanted to make sure everything leafed out and survived year 1. The soil in my yard is terrible once you go down 3". Surprisingly it was a productive peach and apple orchard before the homes were built. You can see my peach trees behind the apple. You'll notice the pink blossoms.
Planning on making front yard nice like that in a few years when we're getting ready to sell.

Backyard i love my weeds. I spray clethodim to get more weeds. Could do without creeping Charley though.

Only takes a spraying or two a year for a year or two to turn it in into all grass.

All of the crabapples, pears, and Chinese chestnuts I planted in March from Blue Hill have leafed out.

But none of the grafted persimmons have. Is it normal for them to be this late? All of my seed grown American persimmons on my property have woken up and leafed out.

My persimmon always leaf out the latest.

this is good to know...i was getting worried about the 2 BH persimmons I have that still look rather stick like and leafless...

My persimmon have always died over the winter haha great success with pears and apples, ~60/60 but persimmon no luck, I’m like 0/16 with them North Pa zone 5. I emailed Ryan from blue hill and he said not to tube them since they won’t go dormant early enough in the tubes, and freeze. Made sense so I’m giving it one last shot in cages this spring before I call it quits.

Mine are in tubes, but I lifted them about 4-6" to hopefully allow enough air flow for them to harden off. I also wrapped the bottom in window screen.

shoulda talked to you before this year...I think im in zone 6 so maybe that will help?

I double my tubes on persimmons so there's twice as much space around them. Better air circulation.

Mine are not BH. Seedlings from DCNR I believe. They're 7 or 8 years old now and when I went up over the weekend were just barely starting to break bud.

Add Yates and Arkansas Black to the "blooming" list for 3-4 year old trees. My 2nd year Liberty is also blooming. 2nd year Kieffer and Hunters deer pears bloomed, but got smoked with a frost night before last.
