Blind heaters

I got a Nu-way heater for Christmas. It calls for a 6" vent. What do you guys do for this? Thinking about opening one window a inch. Window is 25" wide.
I've got three Nu-Way gas stoves in our Redneck Blinds. Those blinds are all pretty tight. Generally, I un-latch all the windows possible to shoot out of which will leave a small gap at the glass and the gaskets.....and were good to go. You will be able to hear the stove venting the gasses when its operating. If it's fairly nice weather, I want a shooting window open anyways.....and like to be able to hear outside the blind.

On one blind the windows are drafty enough that we've been fine. On the other we have a three inch vent that's never fully open. Must get air coming in other places, probably the floor. Haven't set off the CO detector in either blind yet.

Here's a totally different option.

Over the summer I installed an 8kw diesel heater in my blind. It does not use 8KW of electricity, they just quote the heat output in KW instead of BTU. 8kw is 27,297 BTU. So think of it as a 27,000 BTU diesel forced air heater that uses 12vdc to run the fan, fuel pump, and glow plug. I got mine on sale for $50. Its draws about 15 amps when starting, then once its going good the current draw drops off to around 2 amps on low. I have 800W of solar panels on the blind for the security cameras and wifi, so powering this wasn't an issue.

On high it will warm up the blind very quickly.
On low its pretty quiet. The fuel pump is a solenoid type, so it makes a ticking sound (that's my biggest complaint).
Since it blows exaust outside the windows don't fog up. The control circuit can either be set to stay on (with a half dozen or so steps from low to high), or it can come on and off based on the thermostat in the control board.

So far we've only run it a few hours and burned maybe a quart of diesel.

Anybody got a propane heater you call pretty quiet? The spot I hunt isn't a long shot place, and working around steam and gas turbines my whole life has't been great to my hearing either.

Building (2) 6x6ft platforms for the guys at camp to put blinds on.

The whole reason I bought the one I did was because it was quiet.

Some of the propane heater make noise, like gas throttling though regulators, crackling thermal expansion, even when up to temp.

Going to give the blind thing another shot. Tried it a few years back, the deer would snort at it.

Really wasn't bad this year hunting I got to admit. The problem is it's too warm to let a deer hang. Would be nice being out all day at camp, instead of going back for lunch.

Ks joe, I bought one of those but never used it, put one of those fancy newport 12000 stainless and glass stoves in. Those things are quiet enough? I wish my heatr had a temp switch though. The window is my temp switch. Got real lucky and found a never installed one for $550 in washington DC. Picked it up on my way to north carolina.

I've been doing some research for a direct vent heater to install on my 6X8 blind and found this wall mount heater from Ashley Hearth that I am thinking of buying. I like the fact that it vents directly through the wall with no big vent pipe and should take up way less room that the nu-way heater. The literature says it has quiet operation. Has anybody tried this heater out?

I rented a cabin in the adirondacks for 2 winters with a very similar styled heater. They were empires. They worked good. 12x12 log cabin, ceailing was insulated. single pane windows with plastic, carpet over uninsulated floor. -10 degree nights were touch chilly.

I imagine the ashley has an optional vent fan. Get a fan to blow though the heat exhcanger, if you cant get the factory one in 12v. Also, look at the literature closely. You may need 24v for the thermostat controls, some of those heaters make enough electricity from the pilot thermocouple to operate the gas valve without it. MY heat had trouble going on in that cabin, the contacts were dirty in the thermostat, it wasn't a mercury switch.... Gave up complaining and bought a new one myself. The themostat contacts have to be in pretty good shape.

I really wanted that heater for my enclosed trailer. just didn't see a way to make it work and not get damaged by the mess of junk flying in the pipe on a wet highway.

Another issue you could have is long light up times. A god run of gas pipe needs to be purged before the pilot will light. I use a basic propane torch and supplement the lack of pilot. Otherwise you got to hold the pilot button in for 5 minutes or so and then light. Not disconnecting the tank between outings will prevent this.
