Best thing to plant in first year of no till plot

Well I presume nobody on here can ID them based on the pictures I have posted. I would have to take some pictures here once I can get in there once the snow melts. I planned to cut them down before green up so leafs will be available.

Well this turned from "what do I plant" to "how do I kill". :D

Can't positively ID them, but if I was going to guess I'd go with tag alders.

That would be what I would call "tags" but I would use that broadly. If so, what are my chances with Gly?

Most likely dismal, if they are tag alders(what my group would call "blackbrush") those "clumps" likely have some interconnected root systems under the ground. They aren't nearly as bad as poplar/aspens when it comes to underground root systems, but they run a not too distant second.
