Anyone have experience with the Firminator G3?

He can correct me if I’m wrong but it’s the one that has the disc, the spiked roller, and then the cultipacker. That would be the FPS. The PSS has the adjustable spiked roller instead of the disc.

PSS 84” - front disk gang, spiked roller, cast cultipacker and two seed boxes
On the new ones, doesn’t the PSS have the angled spiked roller instead of the disc?

So now I’m curious. Just looked at the PSS and the FPS and they both seem to have the same equipment. What the difference between the two?

Couldn't for the life of me figure that out either.

Some of the PSS models have 2 spiked rollers with the one in front being adjustable. You never see the FPS models with the adjustable spiked roller so I assumed that was the difference then SC went and through me a curve ball. Then I went looking and became really confused. Oh well. Not the first time.

I think you can specify disk if you order instead of the front spiked roller. Would not have it without disk

Well after trying to get a quote for the past 5 weeks for the Woods FPS72 Seeder, I received one. Looks like a good unit and would fit my needs well; however, lead time is out to 6 months. Which in today's market, given all the supply chain issues, they can't tell me when they can deliver.

Not sure where you are at but there’s a place in Ohio that’s supposedly Woods number 1 dealer that does ship. They may have them.

You can find them on Tractorhouse.com

I have experience buying a g3 but it’s still strapped on the pallet sitting in my shed until spring. It took less than 6 weeks from order to delivery. Nothing but good things to say about the buying experience.

I got the 72” model with upgraded 16” packers. It’s a beast (1850# empty) and I can’t wait to try it. I already have 2 neighbors fired up to let me practice on their land beforeI tear into my 10 acres.

Yeah Mark at Firminator has been very helpful answering questions and providing info.

I posted a question on the other thread about these things. Will they work with seed blends? Or do you have to buy them separate? e.g. Brassicas and Grains (Autumn Buffet by Deer Creek)?

Also - the idea of calibration makes me nuts. I watched some videos. I don't have the time/patience to throw a sheet down and spin wheels and crap. How easy is the firmanator? Woods? I sure hope someone tells me you fill up the hopper. Set the openings based on the chart and then just go. @X MPH. ha.

My place is 90 mins from home. So, I lose 3 hours+ per trip. Love the idea of a spray and then come back in 2 weeks and do a single pass. Right now planting is an all day thing for me. Till.... pack/drag... broadcast... pack. And doing that for 5 food plots. Seems like it would be easy sitting on the JD most of the day, but wow it is a long day. Generally takes me 12 hours.

I am intrigued if easy to use.

It will undoubtedly be a huge time saver for you. What use to take 3-4 long days with multiple tractors running and lots of help to plant 40 acres of plots turned into 2 days when I bought my Woods 84, my only regret with my Woods is that I didn’t buy one 15 years earlier!

I also use a 10’ Great Plains at work a lot and this applies to it and the Woods I own, blends are no problem at all and it’s actually all I plant but the seeding charts on the machines don’t cover mixes. Calibration on the Woods is a 10 minute job and just slightly longer on the GP unit, you can absolutely do a WAG on both units and hope that it works out ok but just don’t be disappointed if yours plots are too thin or if you run out of seed halfway thru.

If I plant a single seed I will calibrate also because seeds differ in size from year to year, but that’s just me.

The Firminator has a bin agitation option. I never use seed mixes that have a great difference in sed sizes. If I am planting beans, I only plant that one seed. When i am broadcasting, I will mix clovers, brassicas', & turnips.

Once I get my Firminator, i am looking forward to planting single rows/strips of of seed type to see how much better germination rates are. i can then plant multiple rows of one seed type, and then repeat that approach with other seed types to be able to rotate crop plantings.

For you guys with the Woods planters, if you want to overseed an oat or wheat into clover/alfalfa will the unit do it without tearing up the standing crop? If you set the discs straight forward, how much damage is it doing to the clover/alfalfa?

I have disc'd clover 3"-4" deep and it always bounces back.

If you have good ground moisture and you set the discs straight you will hardly notice you have been there, I plant thru clover plots every year.

Anybody using these minimum till drills to plant corn? Sounds like they do ok on beans but I can't find much on corn.
I've got a 4 row corn/bean planter I would sell to offset the cost of a Woods or similar if they were capable of planting corn.
