How old are the trees in the first pic? Any nuts yet? Any cankers?
I'm curious why you aren't planting any partners for it to make chestnuts? Now with a few black cherry trees removed so it gets morning sun.

I think this is fantastic to have a healthy Chestnut growing so well - nice job! I'm with Hoytvectrix, since you've done such a good job growing this one, there is no time like the present to plant a few more so it has another chestnut to take to the prom someday!Already in the ground and growing.

Chestnut tree question. Forester notice this chestnut tree when I was having hemlocks removed. It was growing at the base of a large oak tree so I'm not sure it would ever amount to anything. But in any case the idiot tree cutters for the power company decided they'd just cut it down when they were clearing around my power lines. It has since stump sprouted. I caged the stump sprouts trying to save it from the deer. Is it salvageable? It does get a decent amount of sun there even though it's shadowed by the oak. I'm assuming next spring I should pick the best sprout and trim the rest. No idea what kind it is, I doubt it was planted there at the base of the oak.

Never grafted anything but I can try. thanksYou could prune it back to one or also use some of the other sprouts to graft different scions onto.
Have one tree that’s self pollinating that way.
