Sir why do pear trees cost more at every nursery than the same size apple trees? Thanks

Very very tempted. What's the story behind primetime?

You selling scions this year?

Post a link.

Disregard the odd appearance of the link, must have something to do with the company that hosts our on-line store. If you click the link it will take you to the right location.

Sure just PM or email me what you are looking for. You guys do a good job of trading amongst yourselves for free, so I really don't want to stand in the way of that.

Sales a little slow this year? Seems like a lot places have plenty of stock left. Trying hard to say no to big dog on m111, but don't mind not saying no.

I cut back on my rootstocks order last week. Removed the antonvomka's. I suspect they're not low pH tolerant. So, I should be good on scions this year.

No they are pretty consistent with previous years. Our biggest issue is that we have a quite a few trees from last year that we need to move. We went from the dead of Winter to Summer in about 2 weeks last Spring, typical for Kansas weather, but catching us off guard more than usual as it was only late February. It gave us little time to advertise more to clear our remaining inventory and get the field work done that we needed to before it was too late to dig trees. We only sell bare root, nothing potted so when the trees start to wake up in the field we are done selling for the Spring. Unfortunately, trees that are 2 years old already aren't as easy to sell because shipping 2 year old trees is so cost prohibitive we don't like to market them as being trees we can ship. Our bread and butter has become custom grafting for other nurseries and large buyers, but I really don't want to give up the part of the business that built our reputation. Its hard to be humble 🙂 when your customers routinely tell you that your trees are the best they have ever bought in terms of quality and healthiness. As I think I have mentioned on here before its a saturated market since Covid. Lots of little nurseries claiming they have "unique" varieties, I am all for capitalism but it makes it hard to operate if a bunch of us are splitting a relatively small pie. Grafting for our big customers is great because I don't have to be a salesman, but it doesn't have the same feel as selling trees to guys like you.

Been a bit tempted to do what you do. It's fun as a hobby at least. Another orchard is being sold off in my area this year.

Going to see how the G890's take to my backyard. Been rolling the idea around of a u-pick orchard 4 or 5 acres. Might have to do m111's to get enough size with my heavier clay. If I do that, I will buy bare roots. Nobody has a u-pick orchard touted as organic. Put a few late season trees in the corner so I can hunt there too.
