Done topworking the trees at home. This one was a droptine. I put 8 or so kerr grafts on it. Also put a keepsake on one branch. The spacing of the buds was a bit wide and thin, so I put a perch guard ontop of it. Parked a branch of nova ezgro and sandbur's courthouse crab on a franklin cider.
Coworkers have covid, so I got to work saturday instead of topworking and planting witchhazel // pussy willow at camp. Probably be ok the next weekend.

I’m curious on your reasoning for grafting 8 branches over to Kerr instead of just grafting the entire top over with 1 graft?

They call it frameworking instead of topworking. Supposed to become a regular tree again faster. I have plenty of kerr scion to work with, its my only antonovka tree in my backyard, and at worse I end up replacing it with a m111.
I replaced a rusty pristine with trailman on a bit smaller tree than the one in the pic. I did the leader and 4 or 5 branches, made one branch buckman, and another AWHO. Trying to keep all my zone 3 options at home, even it it's just a brnach or two. Very likely could make 2-3 trees a year off a branch.
At them end of the summer I will have 41 trees on 8 acres. Thinking the mower is gonna eat half of them anyway.
grafted all winter hangover ontop of a galarina and put a branch of roadside on it. Will keep a few lower brnaches galarina. I have 2 other galarinas.
Doing 40 at home and 40 at camp. When the loggers wreck some a trees I'll replace those. Finding some real sneaky places they cant get a logging machine to for the last 15 I am planting this year.
If my math is right I got 28 grafted rootstocks in the basement. I am planting atleast 10 if not 15 at camp 4 at home, and the rest are insurance policies for grafts. They take, I give em away as extras.

Giving away my gift trees this week. Thansk to everyone who traded scion on here. The topworked trees and branch here n there on other trees all are easily putting on 12 inches if not more. Alot of my rootmaker pots are pushing 4 feet like last year. Failed grafts I either chip or tongue n whip grafted in may did well too. 18 inches to 2 ft on most of the 2nd chance ones. I had good scion material, but I think using 30-06 and kerr might of been a good idea. They grow like weeds. Also, I hydrated some of my rootstock. Trimmed the scion a bit for a fresh end, then placed it in the fridge overnight in a bit of water for 18 hours or so. Ones I did put on growth real fast.
I am taking a year or two off from grafting. Got a decent sleection and number at camp, got a little over 40 trees at home on a few acres. Will be glad to send out scion to others.
Be nice to see some other folks fruit of their labor on here.
