I’m in Tennessee and have about a dozen varieties of pears and three of apples. I find apples are not easy to grow/maintain. If I were you I would focus on pears and persimmons first as both are low maintenance quick producers. My late dropping (Nov-Jan) pears are too young for scions this year but Kieffer, Ayers, Orient, Bartlett, Dixie Delight, Ms Lanenne, Pineapple, Benton, and Ledbetter are mature. Like my pears, my late drop American persimmons are not mature enough for scions but I do have Deer Magnet, Morris Burton and Big DV that are mature. I also have six varieties of oriental/Japanese persimmons. If I can help you with a few scions, let me know.

We will have to plan for next year for sure. Where could I find rootstock compatible for persimmon? I have none on my property. Would Def be interested in those pear varieties. I live out west so my father is trying the grafting. Looks like we've made some rookie mistakes already not cutting scions down to size.

I grow American persimmons from seeds in pots and within two years I cut them off and graft scions (both American female and Japanese) into them. Growing American persimmons from seeds produces (in my opinion) far more male trees than female and you won’t know if you have a female for about 4 years. Several nurseries sell 24”-36” one year old trees in bundles. They ask too much for them but they are available. In TN the state ag commission has a nursery which is cheap. Your state probably does the same. Next year if you need some scions for grafting, let me know. BTW if your are trying to draw in wild game, have you looked into chestnut trees? I can help you there too.

Thanks, I was able to find a couple a few months ago for next spring.
It was a long hunt for me to find some, they are pretty popular and available in the UK but kind of scarce here.
I got bitten by the redflesh bug pretty hard a few years ago complements to Sandbur and his awesome pics! Now I have over a dozen varieties in the ground and keep looking for more, Michigan State University has a couple they have developed that are next on my list to try and acquire…Cranberry and Otterson.

Appreciate the heads up.
