Prettier in terms of growth habit. In terms of Autumn color, neither of them has been much to look at -- I think it's a matter of climate, they wilt before they have a chance to put on any color for me. But the first couple years, this tree was very pretty *after* it lost all the foliage, with fruits on the branches like Christmas balls.

The guy called my cellphone and it felt like he was standing next to the tree as he described what he could cut off and send to me, and was wondering if those sticks would work for me. For the late hanging apple enthusiasts, on a drive across about half of NYS today I spotted a tree with a decent number of hangers for this time of year and cut some scions (which were relatively abundant thanks to it getting whacked with a flail mower). I know nothing about the tree aside from the fact that it still has apples on it. Only one I saw holding apples out of probably tens of thousands of wild trees I probably glanced at on the drive.

I'm looking for any apple/pear for deer draw power. I don't have anything to trade but good to purchase. I have some pear rootstock from Cummins and apple from blue hill to give grafting a try.

I’m in Tennessee and have about a dozen varieties of pears and three of apples. I find apples are not easy to grow/maintain. If I were you I would focus on pears and persimmons first as both are low maintenance quick producers. My late dropping (Nov-Jan) pears are too young for scions this year but Kieffer, Ayers, Orient, Bartlett, Dixie Delight, Ms Lanenne, Pineapple, Benton, and Ledbetter are mature. Like my pears, my late drop American persimmons are not mature enough for scions but I do have Deer Magnet, Morris Burton and Big DV that are mature. I also have six varieties of oriental/Japanese persimmons. If I can help you with a few scions, let me know.
