    Who drives to their stand?

You ^ are awesome. You are blessed that God gave you the gift of legs to walk and you don't take it for granted. Don't ever give up! Although I could purchase several ATV’s I will never own one and I walk in every time. On some days my walk-in is 1.5 hours, my pack is heavy, I climb STEEP...

    SLN new catalog

Yes! I was ontop of things this year and logged into STL on 12/1 to order AWH, WWC....but not any were available...?? As others have mentioned, Conner emailed me saying several varieties were too small due to the drought. But he recommended a couple others that were late droppers. He...

Elderberry seedlings/cuttings this year? York variety?

Thanks H20. I did see CSF has some older seedlings available but they are higher in price and I suspect shipping would be too. In the past I have been able to purchase from various state nurseries at $25 for 30 seedlings and even $12 for 25 seedlings.

Elderberry seedlings/cuttings this year? York variety?

Thx Bill. I do have a few and starting from existing cuttings is an option. Every cutting that grew would be a clone of its parent which would be unpreferrrable but it is a fun option.

Elderberry seedlings/cuttings this year? York variety?

I did not get around to ordering my seedlings until early February this year. Because of my delay I missed the window for Elderberry. MDC is sold out, NY & WVA have zero to offer, VA is sold out, PA has zero to offer (in fact PA has fallen off the grid this year with only 4 seedling choices...

    3 pt sprayers

Hey, going to resurrect an old thread! This summer I am prepping for my 4th section of NWSG that will be seeded this fall. Over the last 5 years or so I prepared 3 other smaller sections with my backpack sprayer :emoji_weary:. I do like the exercise but this 4th section is just too big. I...

USDA/ SWCD helps w/ habitat improvements

I have been performing habitat improvements for 20+ years but similar to the OP I came across some information and pursued it . I called my local NRCS and started talking about what was available that may mesh with my goals. I had shared that I would like to create another NWSG/pollinator...

    Dustan chestnuts

TY Skinner! You probably should start a new thread in order to not distract from OP. If not, then there you have it.... the most up to date excellent information. Excellent information. Eric says he believe they publish a summary of the NY meetings too. So we may be able to read about the...

    Dustan chestnuts

Very much agreed,...even with the best data and best science they will not change. They have closed their mind in this area and their opinion is based on their feelings. But I bet they use google everyday and let google sell their usage data because they don't even understand that either. I...

    Dustan chestnuts

Hey. I think you live close. I am in northern Potter Co, PA near Coudersport. Going to the meeting next Saturday? . Good stuff. I think you mean it needs specific genes from 8-11 of the chromosomes for resistance.

    Dustan chestnuts

I agree with all your points!...and I am seeing/hearing the same things from people working directly on approval. However, their reaction was predictable....the closer your are to success the more people who try to bring you back down. I was sent this article: GMO chestnut. I thought it was a...

    15/16 chestnut spource

yepper. Also, FWIW, my land is North Central PA in a 5a (and some years it feels like a 4b since I have seen -24 and about 2 years in 5 we have frosts in early June). I tried some dunstans from chestnut hill back in maybe 2014..?? They do not, NOT do well in cold climates with late frosts. I...

    Dustan chestnuts

Good stuff BKY. The NY group is SUNY-ESF. They were successful with their wheat gene insertion and blight resistant american chestnut. They have backcrossed their Darling 58 (a line of transgenic american) with a pure wild american. That offspring has successfully produced nuts with about...
