Novice Question: Spring Planting vs Fall Planting

Rebooting this thread! Great info. I ended up planting the buckwheat blend in both plots and it definitely exploded. I swear it was almost 5 feet high.... is this incorrect? Do you mow buckwheat? It was so high that even when I sprayed it in mid August it just layed down in huge piles. So...

    ATV Cultipacker vs. ATV Roller?

Sorry, I continue with the rookie questions, but you guys are seriously helping me immensely. Thanks so much. Looking to add some food plot implements to my arsenal. We are not doing huge food plots. 1acre Max as of right now - mainly 1/4acre Kill plots. We do have the potential to possibly...

    Food Plot 101 questions

I think my main confusion (and possibly other novice Plotters confusion) is understanding the standard methods of how/when to plant a new mix on top of a current standing food plot. My biggest fear is putting in a lot of time and effort into a food plot, but planting incorrectly, thus screwing...

    Home made mineral mix

Real quick: I saw this on an email blast from Kip Adams: "a great homemade mixture is 50lbs dicalcium phosphate, 40lbs salt, and 10lbs trace minerals. I personally use this mixture along with a Trophy Rock at all of my mineral sights." Seems like he doesn't use the 2:1 ratio on the Trace...

My Zone 6A Soil Test Results - Please decipher!

So trying to absorb all of this. My soil test is telling me my current PH, which in most cases is low. I understand that liming raises PH. Then what about fertilizer - Is my fertilizer used to build PH or is my fertilizer used to give the plants maximum nutrition after the lime raises the PH?

    Cost Efficient Mineral?

So, just to cure my own confusion, could one argue that they could put out 10 Mineral Licks to replace 10 Food Plots and save tons more $ and labor hours - if they are getting the same minerals that they would get from a food plot, in a $12 block? I realize this may be the dumbest comment on...

What exactly is "Stock Salt"? I am trying to get a better understanding of the terminology when trying to buy these items. Thanks.

    Home made mineral mix

Just called my local feed store. $53 for 150lbs. That seems decent to me, but wondering if the Trace Mineral blocks posted above for $13 are a better option? 50lbs - Di-Cal - $31.49 50lbs - Stock Salt - $10 50lbs - Trace Mineral - $12

    Cost Efficient Mineral?

I realize this site is based more on Habitat Improvements, but you guys are very knowledgeable so thought I would post this question here. I have been researching different mineral options, and to save some money, I thought I would try to buy locally to avoid the heavy shipping costs. I came...
