Too Late?

Is it too late to cut some scion wood in NW Wis?

Chuck

No, actually way too early unless you have a reason you have to do it now.

Too early. Wait until late Feb. or early March.

Oh I thought you do it in late November and store it in your refrigerator?

Chuck

You cut your scions when the tree is dormant so you could do it now. But there is no good reason to cut now and store it unless you weren't going to see the tree again until spring. If you have access to the trees, best to let the wood on the tree for a couple more months so you don't have to worry about it drying out or getting moldy or any other storage problems in the refrigerator.

Thanks for the info. I have access to the trees I want to graft from so I can wait. These are trees on by buddy's property and the apples are very good and all 4 drop at different times. 2 are crabs, 1 is a golden of some sort and the other is red. I think they were planted on an old homestead as there are also some foundations on the property. Can't wait to try grafting as I've never done this before.
Thanks to this site and the people on here as I have already learned a ton!!!
