Hello all I am running 7 J series. Do too the fact #8 died going back for warranty work the big problem is 2 weeks ago I put out me home cell unit very poor directions to say the least but got it up and running. Set on picture delivery every 12 hours got my first group of pictures 6:04am got my second group 6:04pm then nothing. Yesterday I had a neighbor go to my cell unit to see if he could get it up and running for me because it’s an 8 hour drive and he said it is putting out an error code 40 does anyone know what that is

do a battery reset with new batteries , make sure all the power is gone from the capacitor when doing so-
pull old batteries first, then push test or any action with batteries out to use up all the power in camera, then place new batteries in it. make sure old and new batteries are inserted correctly.
if this doesnt work that unit needs to be sent in for service/replacement.
also make sure the unit has the firmware update installed which is 7.3 version.

I recently set up 8 Cuddeback G models 1385 home unit... In all the excitement to get things set up I loaded all with 4 D Cell Duracells, 32BG cards, set all to photo, 3 pictures every time camera is triggered day and night, IR Flash.... and by mistake rifled through the lapse on the night and day settings on 8 of the to 12 cameras. That equates to 3 pictures every 12 seconds, 22000 pictures, 24GB on a 32GB card. For those of you wondering about battery life.. I pulled the home card at almost exactly 74 hours to find 8 cameras with low battery, but they were still taking photos and around 8GB left on a 32 GB card, 22000+ photos on each card.... lots of pictures of greenspace and every now and then deer. After 4 days since I reset the cameras the heaviest traffic on one camera is 231 photos. Temperature and flash difference will deplete batteries faster but that aside I should get 95 days out of that camera on the 4 D Cells. I have the que set to 100 on all cameras and so far with 10 of the 12 operational the ques has always been empty, and when I pull the home card the newest pictures are under 30 minutes old. All of these cameras are within a 300 acre area with rolling river bottom terrain. Lowest RF level is 36, down in a creek bed. Great thing is the ability to pull the card every 24 hours and track what buck is where...without intrusion and leaving my scent.

at the risk of drumming up more controversy i thought id post some recent pics i received that were taken and transmitted via cuddelink and then Cell home. These pics are transmitted images taken by a J camera IR version. These deer bedded and slept in front of the camera for a long time. They even got up a couple times and bedded back down. The entire time they were facing an IR cam that took the pics with RED LEDs. The camera is about 20 feet away,doesnt seem to bother them at all.

I will have my neighbor try that thanks for the information. How do I know if the firmware update was installed to 7.3 version???

you can check it in the commands section of the camera interface it will show what version it is, that is also where you update it,

Hi all, I've been following this thread since near the beginning and it has been a great help! I've been running 8 j model black flashes since March of this year and have been very pleased with the results. I have seen anywhere from 70-135 days on 12 "AA" lithium Energizer batteries. I just recently added the cell home and 4more j model black flashes to another Property and am very pleased with results as well. I have two questions though. One is on the home cell setting of how often to send the pics to email. I set it to send on 1pic assuming that way I won't have one pic sitting in limbo for half a day waiting on more pics to be taken. But this has made me wonder if it is a good idea or not, I setup a mineral camera and didn't give it enough delay(set it at 5sec) and it has taken 400 pics in a couple days and all the pics are in que on that cam now and I am receiving anywhere from 1-6 pics every 20-40min or so and it is now a day behind on getting me pics. Is this more so a issue with the pics being in que on the one cam? Or could the cell home setting at 1pic hold things back ever and it should be on every 1hour or something else? My second question is about the shutter switching from day to night mode. There have been times where I will have multiple photos in the same minute and they alternate between night and day mode. When that happens there is an audible shutter change and I have seen a couple deer catch it and look dead at it. They didn't spook but I am curious to why this happens and if it can fixed. It also happened this weekend when I setup a new cam and checked that it was taking pics, I could here it changing shutter between every pic. Is it to do with lighting ? position of camera? Or is something wrong with cam? Doesn't happen at night time only during day, possibly dim lighting conditions? And not on every cam location

Do you have a comparison of battery live lithium vs. alkaline on the J series cams? Just curious, was hoping not to have to use lithium.

Anything special I need to do when installing the external battery packs? Will they switch over to internals when it gets low?

you should be able to just plug it in and arm. They will switch over to the internals and you will also get a notice on your report that the EXT is LOW when they run down . If you want to see the battery level in External pack right away, pull the batteries on the unit, power down the unit, hit test to run out all power, then put the internal batteries back in, plug in the external pack and arm the camera.
Cell cams are shipping in good numbers daily filling existing backorders. if you dont have one on order with a dealer already, PM me and i can give you a few to call that i know either have them now or will any day.

first- setting your cell to 1 pic will not work since its a multi cam system. It wont allow it to keep up unless you get very few pics each day. The only instance you would want cell home to be set at less than "batch 10" is if you are on the property on a stand and want real time info asap. Every time the cell emails or texts it has to shut down the cuddelink mode for 6-7 minutes , then it needs to receive images in que that were taken while it was emailing etc and you can see how it can get behind in a hurry.

here is the settings i use and recommend -

3. Set camera delay at 5 seconds or LONGER on remotes
4. Set CL delay at 5 Seconds or LONGER on remotes ( I always set the camera delay longer or the same as the CL delay, this insures all images get home)
5. Set your CL count at 25-50 on each remote camera (default is 250)
6. set zone to "centered" on remote cams unless in a food plot
7. when set at batch 20-30 you will still get at least one email a day with the report and another with whatever images are on the Cell home even if its less than the batch number setting.

Regarding the filter, this is most likely a result of lightning conditions in that location, it often happens in transition time or in a heavily canopied area where light levels can get low during the day.

Thanks for the fast reply! Makes more sense now. Do you have any suggestions for the high canopy cover to keep the shutter from swapping as much?

john, what does the CL Delay do? I'm using 4 G-series cameras with the Home unit. I'm not using the cell service. I was told by someone else to set CL Delay to 1 hr in order to get better battery life. So I have my cameras set to 1 hr CL Delay. its the amount of time the remote waits to transmit the image home. 5 seconds is as short as it will go, you can set it longer but if you are getting a lot of pics you may want to shorten it up, i think battery life savings is negligible in regards to that setting.
