Winter Vole Damage

Buffalohunter1

A good 3 year old buck
With warm weather and rain we experienced in central Wisconsin the last couple of days the snow pack has receded enough to show what our local vole population was up to. Judging by the amount of dropping’s present they’ve been busy for the better part of the winter.
I’m not sure what variety of shrub is in the picture but they sure took a liking to it. This shows the importance of proper production of fruit trees. I personally use aluminum window screen stapled around the bases of the trunk with good success.

Jumpin' Jehosaphat! I think I might buy a few more rolls of screen this year.

My brother and I had voles in the orchard really bad one winter... we took care of them.

It really shows the benefit of having a couple hawks and fox around...we had trouble with deer mice climbing 2' up some of the aluminum screens on trees and eating bark this year. They got after some of my shrub plantings too.
