Williams Creek Farm of SW Iowa

Damn, do you know if he survived? He's a mega.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t shown up on camera. Still have my fingers crossed, but I’m doubtful. And I think he wasn’t any older than 4.5. Let him walk several times last year.

Don’t beat yourself up too bad. I’ve shot deer high and low, full pass throughs and they should’ve been dead without question. Never recovered. They disappeared but showed again the following spring. They’re incredibly tough and resilient. That buck is beautiful and I have high hopes for ya!

If you didn't cut anything vital, arrow wounds heal up pretty cleanly. Some guys have even taken deer with old broadheads inside covered with gristle & scar tissue.

Kids back for Christmas. Did a pheasant hunt on our neighbors. Had an AWESOME time. Everyone who carried a gun dropped at least one bird. The first one for my youngest daughter.

Thanks! We saw more birds than I’ve seen in the past 20 years. Dropped 4 pheasant and one quail. Beautiful 80 acres of CRP.

Iowa deer season ended yesterday for our area. Had a buddy out and showed me how to set snares for coyotes. While I grew up trapping muskrat, coon, mink, I’ve never done dry-land sets. Also made a set for bobcat—tho I need to get the bucket notched. Well see how they go.

Attempting to catch a bobcat in a couple bucket sets. So far, three possum and this nice smelly thing. 🙂

So, gonna try using it as bait for some coyotes snares. Don’t know if it will attract them or not. Anyone else found a use for skunk? :-)

Was shed hunting last weekend and found the big ‘un I shot on Nov 20. He was 250 yrds from the stand, up a hill on a ridge I didn’t check in season. I had come within 60yrds when grid searching.

Rack still in tact. Measured 177”. Taxidermist said he has an extra cape, so as my largest deer yet, gonna go ahead and mount him.

Today we burned the field where we dropped all the cedars last summer.

Gal Dang! Congrats, bet it's bittersweet but you feel better. Glad you found him and got closure on the deal. Post pictures once you've got him on the wall!

Yes. Definitely bittersweet. Lots of “if only”. Will post pics when I get him back. Taxidermist says prob about a year.

Just remember at the end of the day, you closed the deal. It wasn't ideal but you did find him and his life was not in vain!
