Williams Creek Farm of SW Iowa

How was your Sercia kill with MSM60? I'm really dissapointed with the results I got. Tore up my sprayer too. Maybe I sprayed too late, Sept 23, but it doesn't look like it did anything. The MFA sprayed Crossbow and Pasture Guard on the acreage they could get their rig to and absolutely torched it.

I just went back and looked at my notes from Adam Keith. He said it doesn’t burn it down like gly, but they won’t grow back next year. So You may still have a kill on them.

Took out this old warrior yesterday. Not the big one we’ve been chasing, but still thankful. He came in to a waterhole with his tongue hanging and drank for 2 mins before giving me a shot. Dropped within 15yrds of the stand. Love those recovery jobs!

That is great news and congrats on a great buck! Regarding the sprayer the saplings tore off 2 of 3 sprayer nozzles on my boomless rig. Those little pieces of plastic are spendy to replace. Toasted a strip of clover too because I didn't realize the sprayer was still on when I went to refill. Overall, I've had muich worse debacles than toasted clover and a dinged up sprayer, lol!

Inspire by Catscratch , my daughter and I made a makeshift fletching post and salted the deer pelt. Our first hide tanning experience. Would have been better had we tackled this right after skinning the deer.

Invited a buddy and his daughter from our church. She shot her first deer ever. Ended up doubling up in just two hours in the blind. So happy for them!

Came across first shed. A bit early for our area.

First time I’ve been on this food plot all season. Brassicas on one half have been hammered. Milo on the other half have lots of heads on them, yet.

That shed is from last year at least. Too chewed and faded to be from this year isn’t it?

Congratulations to your hunters. I think it's an older shed also.

You guys are likely correct. Is so, we’re lucky it didn’t end up in a tire, as I found it in the grass on field edge where we drive our SxS. All the time.

Full day yesterday...
* Planted 50 hybrid willows for a road screen
* Planted 25 plum trees
* Had a coon curled up on a tree stand
* Flagged our CRP, so our renter knows where the CRP ends, and his field begins
* Saw 3 trumpter swans on one of our ponds
* Friend brought his 4 kids and caught some monster bluegill from one of of our ponds.

Iowa DNR has been a great source for trees and shrubs.

We got about 2" of rain the past 3 days.
* Using willow stakes from DNR Nursery
* The Hybrid willow is going in a spot by the gravel road where the road is about 10ft above (you can see the road in the background).
* We also edge feathered right along the road this spring.
* I'm planing one row in the felled trees.
* In this area, I did not do any prep on this spot.
* I'm putting cardboard around every other willow to see compare how it works to keep some of the vegitation back.
* Spaced them 3ft apart

Toosl for this job:
* 3ft measuring stick (1x1 stick with marks ever 6" This has been a great tool for measuring our hedge cuttings--3 flips and you have 9ft, and you can measure the width of the tree)
* Srap cardboard cut into pieces
* Rebar fence post to poke through he cardboard

* Placed a second row along our side-by-side trail.
* Sprayed the reed canary grass last week with gly.
* Placed cardboard around every other stake
* I should have ordered at least 25 more (probably 50 more). Will do so next week.

Saw this furry fellow (raccoon) curled up in a cottonwood deer stand. I should have had a gun with me. :-) This stand is special to me--it was the first time that I shot a buck with my bow and recovered it before the coyotes got to it.

Zoomed out -- stand on right, licking branch on left.

For our plum planting, it is an an area we are trying to get some thickets started--right below the biggest pond on our property. Timber on one side and pasture on the other.
* The ground was saturated
* Lots of brome. I sprayed with gly earlier in the day, and came back 2 hours later to plant the trees
View attachment 64303

* Used a dibble bar for the holes
* Placed cardboard or newspaper around all of them
* Did not measure distande--looks like they may be too close together
* We plan to come back and put cattle panels around them to protect them from the deer.

Awesome work! Looks like the Iowa DNR has some awesome stuff. This might be a stupid question but will the ship outside of Iowa? Wasn't sure with invasives and what not. Thanks in Advance and look forward to seeing your progress!

Thanks. I’m honestly not sure. I order all mine from their website. You can try to place an order and see if it lets you.

Yes they do. They also run a really cheap clearance sale late spring for anything that isn't spoken for.

Ha! Ya, I got an arrow into this guy on my 7th encounter with him this year. There is a story around each encounter. 🙂Unfortunately, didn’t recover him. Shot was low and forward. 4” of the arrow broke off. Really bummed.
