Williams Creek Farm of SW Iowa

Thanks. This new herbicide (MCM 60) is supposed to knock them out. Doesn’t burn them down, but they don’t come back next year. The key is to spray while they are flowering, so only a short window. I’ll let you know next year how it works. :-)

I heard about the same chemical from them on a podcast. Is your's flowering now? I was planning to hit mine in a couple weeks.

Curious what the advantage of that chemical is over gly? Cost? Seems a little goes a long way. I would be a little nervous about the long cycle to see its efficacy. That’s a lot of effort wasted if you have to wait a year and find out it didn’t work. I’m always up for finding new methods so I’d love to know the advantages

Yes, it just started flowering this week, so we hit it on Saturday.

My understanding is that it is effectiveness. More effective than gly to actually get a kill and stop the spread. Here is what I bought: https://www.keystonepestsolutions.c...402&gbraid=0AAAAAD_TCfT1AFAZdhTWugy5qHLK90zFl 16oz will cover 32 acres at 1/2oz per acre.

That said, this is first year, so you can always wait and I'll let you know how it went. :-)

I’m definitely open to something new. That stuff is the definition of a little goes a long way! May pick some up to try it. Lord knows I have enough lespedeza to experiment on

The ever-spreading influence of @SD51555 :-) Looking forward to diving in. Looks pretty technical and no pictures, so hope it's not over my head. :-)

It's not a reading book. It's a reference manual for looking up weed conditions. I haven't even read the front part of the book. I just went straight to the 50 pages of individual weeds and what they are telling us is missing.

Ah, so chart == pictures. Maybe I will be able to understand it. :-)

Pleased with how the new number plot is looking… this cam is facing the direction of my tree stand.

Some pics I took Sept 7 of the mostly (but not entirely) failed clover plot. This was a few weeks after mowing and spraying with clethodym and 2,4Db. Some clover poking through. Also overseeded with clover and oats on the 7th. And on the 14th spread a bit of rye. Sorely need some rain. Next time I see it will probably be from a stand in Oct.

I've done similar cedar clearing projects, you're going to have a heck of a fire.
Do you have any more pics of you sheer? I'm always looking for an easier way to beat back the cedars.

hillrunner finally got some more pics…

A few years ago I contracted the removal of about 10 acres of cedars. The contractor used one of these and a forestry cutter. I can say the results with the sheer were impressive. I can no-till drill over where the stumps are without problems, as it cut them off about ground level.

My buddy is selling a heavy duty one for a skid steer. I wish I could buy the dang thing but it was like $18k new and it’s only been used a handful of times. I’m sure he wants 10k for it or more. I can’t justify it with a mini ex but it would be faster

Ouch. We picked ours up used bundled with a bush hog for the skid steer — both for $6k total.

Yeah this is one the fancy ones that articulates so you can lay the trees down in rows if you wanted to haul them off. Too rich for my blood

Nice. Ya, some of them have a grappler and sprayer for stumps built in. Ours is pretty simple. But it does rotate 90 degrees so you can use it for trimming branches if needed.
