Found this hole in the ground on my walk this morning. Hole is roughly 3/8 inch. Any idea what would make it?

Looks like ants or yellow jackets.

We have ground wasps here, but they don't have excavated dirt piles next to the hole. The excavated dirt looks somewhat like the dirt found around ant mounds.

You should put your pinky finger in the hole and wiggle it around to see what happens.
