turnips and insects/disease

Has anyone ever had problem with a turnip plot? I have had great success with them with the exception of last year. It seemed as tho I had an insect problem or disease problem. Also, some of the foliage had turned yellow . Is there a chemical I can spray on them and if so, about how early? Just an FYI: I don't plant brassicas back to back on the same plot. I know that can cause diseases. All my nutrients and PH were fine as well.

Yellowing is sometimes a sign of N deficiency. How much nitrogen did you put on them?

Red turnip beetles made swiss cheese out of mine last year. Planted it too early in July.

This plot is only 1/3 acre. I put Urea down with a spreader and spread it evenly throughout. Did not remember the lbs. maybe this year I'll add another dose of Urea about 4 weeks in. I already put Urea down as I planted the turnips yesterday.

I had a Gypsy moth problem a couple of years ago in my brassicas. I dusted with Dipel dust and the problem was resolved. 60-90 lbs of actual nitrogen per acre is required to grow a good crop of brassicas. So if you have a third of an acre you will need about 75 lbs of urea 46-0-0.
