you could buy 3-4 trees from BH/WC for that price....and those are known, quickly-productive varieties. ..

is there really a such thing???I ts like having too much money or too much fun (but you dont need to dig a hole to plant, cage, weed mat or window screen money or fun)I, once again, ordered too many trees. I have to stop doing that !!

I took inventory of my 2 Blue Hill orders and 1 Whitetail crabs order, and I wound up with 26 trees for camp. 
That's probably too many. Dad's cousin wants 2-3 but that barely cuts back on the work. I'll have some extra help this year, so it shouldn't be terrible.
Today I picked up lime, fertilizer and biochar for planting in 2+ weeks. Fence was acquired a few weeks back. I just need to cut weed mats from my giant roll.

This year's plan is to cut open a few areas for about 4 trees, next week, and the Driday of our planting weekend. Then on Saturday, we'll rent a skidsteer auger to drill all the holes, and get planting the rest of the day, and Sunday, if needed. I think it's a reasonable plan, as long as the weather cooperates. We should have 3-4 guys to plant this year, so I think we're good.

If I cut the weed mats, screens, and cages, and put the cages in place before the orders arrive, planting trees is fun. I don't like dragging cages through the forest, and I hate mosquitos, but if the cages are in place, and I have bug spray, I can get a lot of trees planted in a day and feel good after. Watering them kinda sucks, but I take pleasure in putting the trees and shrubs in the ground.
Some posters on this thread have commented on water needs of a newly planted tree in relation to the moisture content of the soil in which the tree is planted. Most have suggested methods to ensure the roots are fully / or well hydrated at planting. Some folks may believe well-watered roots eliminate the need to "water-in" a tree. While watering in a tree helps ensure the tree has adequate moisture to begin growth (especially during dry/extremely dry periods), a principle reason for "watering-in" a tree is to eliminate air pockets (as MW 2... suggested) that could contribute to roots becoming dry which may retard root growth growth, adequate tree uptake, tree development or even the death of the tree. For me, it is one extra little step (performed at planting or soon after) that contributes to a good or great survival rate.

I’ve used this stuff for dibble planting hundreds of seedling oak trees. I’ve got 100 coming this spring to replace verities that have done poorly on my site and will likely use this root dip again.

I got my Bluehill order on Monday but haven't been able to get them planted yet. It snowed here on Monday and Tuesday, and I was busy the past couple days. I'm hoping to get them in today, or maybe tomorrow at the latest.
Have I waited too long? I haven't even opened the box. I probably should have at least checked to see how they are packed. They weren't supposed to ship until Monday, so they were a couple days earlier than I expected.

HH, wouldn't worry about delays if your weather has been cool and your box of trees has been kept out of the sun. A week in those conditions is not going to matter. Had one of the Pennsylvania nurseries ship my order way early last yr or yr before in early March. Not sure what they were thinking knowing my location. We still had plenty of winter in WI and those trees sat in my garage for over a month waiting out four more snow storms and the frost to go out of the ground. I did dribble some water in the plastic wrapping the roots after a couple weeks but they really didn't need it.
Some places must not have a lot of long term storage available but I did send them an email to consider shipping address and timing a bit better.

Same thing happened to me , My BH Trees were supposed to ship on Monday 3/9 . HOWEVER for some reason they got shipped on Friday 3/6 and arrived on Monday 3/9.
We were having a warm spell around that time....I'm not going to say the roots were totally dried out -BUT- the roots weren't as moist as other trees I've been shipped. I was lucky to be able to plant my trees the day they arrived, If I were you I'd open up the bag pronto and sprinkle the roots with a watering can and seal the bag back up. Then check on them every couple of days , until you can plant them.
