Is this a Beech tree? It's from a small tree amongst several Shagbark Hickory.

Kind of resembles beech. But something looks off. But that may because of insects eating the edges.

If no one knows with certainty I’d say come back to it in December. If it’s holding it’s brown leaves, it’s a beech. If you’re busy in December, March will work to.

Looks like a swamp chestnut oak.
