Tractor generator question

I replaced batteries on my John Deere 620 which uses 2 6 volt batteries + ground. Ever since then my generator has been running off the battery. Meaning when I kill the ignition the generator continues to spin. I didn't change any wiring so I am truly stumped as to what is causing this. Any ideas? Is it a switch problem?

Hmmmm ... never heard of that before. You might try polarizing the generator. Its really easy to do. I'll let you look up the proper method, as I am not familiar with that particular system. I really have no idea if that will work, but it can't hurt to try, especially since you just replaced batteries. After that, I'd get a schematic of the electrical system, grab a multimeter and start testing for voltage and continuity trying to run down a short somewhere.

Thanks. That was my next step and it is simple to do by jumping the battery terminal to the armature terminal on the regulator. This is driving me nuts and I've looked all over the Internet with little info on this.
