I bought me a 1985 vette (Chevette) back in 1986, it had 3500 miles on it. When I went to buy it, the salesman told me it was his dealer car, and he put all the miles on it. I asked him who he pissed off to get a Chevette as his driver. It was a good car, I put 230,000 miles on it going to college, and work, other then tires, brakes, oil changes, and 2 clutches, no other problems, I beat the snot out of it too. I sold it to a friend, he drove it to 300,000.

Our family drove two dodge colts and two Buicks with 3800 engines to the ground.

The Buicks fell apart, but the engines were still good.

I wish I had another 3800.

I guess we diverted this discussion…

I think I had four vehicles with 3800’s good engines

In the 80's I was putting allot of miles on my company cars which were Oldsmobiles with that 3800 engine. I'd get a new car every two years.....and they all had over 130,000 miles on them.....and all with that engine. Never a lick of engine or transmission issues with those cars.

I can’t remember what it was, but some of those engines had to have something done to them and they were good. We approached 300,000 on them and the frames just rusted out. I never washed the salt off of those old cars but just drove them to work. Then our daughters drove them.

Those 3.8’ were great engines, probably GMs best. Somehow they would pull around those heavy cars, with good power, and get mid 20’s for mpg.

They did have some small problems, egr tubes melting the plastic intake, plastic coolant elbows, and crank sensors, ignition modules.

Good set. The gas can is infuriating. I bought a new nozzle to try out the other day just cause I’m sick of taking the lid off and pouring half the first gallon down my leg when filling the tractor.

Thanks for the link. Just ordered a set.
I did some cans with those components too. Work pretty well....but with mine the vent closure was a bit wonky.....and I had some issues keeping it snapped closed. Still.....it's a decent solution. Maybe they have improved on it by now.

I have a couple of the older style plastic cans I use to fill my diesel tractor and my buddy always wants to use mine as he has the newer ones he hates. I keep my rig in my buddy's pole barn in the summer as about a mile from my land.

I watch out for the old ones at auctions/estate sales but they never go cheap even when empty!

The person(s) who invented those POS cans should be forced to dispense fuel from them every day all day for the rest of their lives. The people who voted for them should just be hung.
