When you guys do a throw and mow plot how low do you mow? Is three inches too high?

I think it all depends on how long the stuff is that your seeding into.

Well it all started out 18-24 inches then I cut it back to about 6 inches. I didn't know a mower was available to rent. If I broadcast a brassica mix and mow to 3 inches will I be okay?

I had an overgrown field that was about 18-24in prior to spray. I hit it with 2 rounds of herbicide, then broadcast into standing dead thatch, then mowed pretty low. Time will tell on how it turns out, but it laid down a nice mulch layer. I would assume most of it mowed at about 3" or so, some areas a little higher. I had good soil exposure below the standing thatch from the spraying.

You'll be ok. Great actually if you get a rain on it.

I had 5 days of PM showers and one day of soaking rain on the forecast when I threw & mowed. Soaking shower missed us by a few miles and only ended up with about 0.2". Unfortunately, forecast cleared up and likelihood of rain has dropped substantially. I'm hoping with the warm weather we are having we develop a few afternoon thundershowers. I'll be outside doing the rain dance this week.

Broadcasting into standing thatch is the ticket. I've done tons of side by side tests and concluded that mowing isn't necessary. Rain is, but the mowing not so much.

I almost switched my plans up to throw/roll, which I think would have worked pretty well to provide the greenhouse effect for germinating the seeds below. I'd venture to guess it holds moisture better than mulched duff (just my hunch, no evidence to support), but I had a few areas where the thatch was so thick I wanted to chop it up some & decided to keep mowing
