I'm curious to learn the size of the Franklin are coming in. I have close to 2000 trees expected to arrive April 21st of which 780 are Franklin Cider. It appears to have been an excellent growing year at the Stark nursery as my paperwork all sized out at 3/4 to 7/8 inch. Tell Maya to listen up and prepare to get his shovel out for the 29th and 30th to get them in the ground before May turkey season.
Hi Appleman,
I ordered my Franklin trees from Cummins which I believe you mentioned ultimately came from Stark. They were nice sized with probably (6) 12" feathers on each tree. Not quite as big as the magnum plum trees i got from them but the Franklin's were solid to say the least. Sorry I didn't have time to snap a picture.
Just got my Cummins order. The few Franklins included were 2-1/2 to 3 ft whips. About 5/16 to 3/8 dia. They were topped so they were probably a little taller
Experts, thanks for all the instructions, tips, ideas, etc. We will be planting about 2 dozen trees in the next week. We have some dark(almost black) aluminum screen lying around. Is this okay to use, or should it be a lighter(galvanized) color? THANKS
This is only my 5th spring planting apples & crabs, so I don't know if darker screen would make a difference. I've always used the silver stuff right off a roll. Maybe some of the other guys have used darker screen. I'd rather have dark screen on than have no screen on at planting time !! Critters find apple tree bark quickly.
